NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release 10 February, 2003

NDP MP’s Remarks Disrespectful to Families

STEINBACH – Recent remarks made in the Parliamentary Justice Committee by NDP Member of Parliament Svend Robinson are disrespectful and offensive to Canadian families, says Provencher MP Vic Toews. In response to witness Richard Hudon on February 6, 2003, Robinson said, “When I hear Mr. Hudon, for example, saying, well you know, it takes a man to create a family, well, I say to Mr. Hudon, with great respect, you're wrong. A turkey baster will do just fine.”

“I am disappointed that Mr. Robinson continues to disparage the traditional family with inappropriate comments during Justice Committee hearings on same sex marriage,” said Toews. “Although Mr. Robinson’s views on marriage are well known, he should show the appropriate level of consideration to the thousands of Canadians who live in traditional marriages as defined by a man and woman to the exclusion of all others.”

The discussion on marriage has resurfaced in Parliament as a result of two recent lower court rulings holding that the traditional definition of marriage violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Justice Minister has requested the Justice Committee to study possible policy approaches to this issue, to hear from Canadians, and to provide him with recommendations on possible legislative reform by early April 2003.

The definition of family is a moral issue, so should any party have a stand on it?

Yes, because it is the fundamental building block of our society. Strong and sound families build a strong and sound society. The problems in oour society are primarily a result of the breakdown in families over the past decades.

Robinson, and the whole gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender/whatevermovesornot movement continue to try to define nature out of the family. A turkey baster is an unnatural intervention that merely physically separates the necessary man from the act of creation. Robinson speaks like he is an environmentalist: why is he so opposed to nature?

And I'm sure Thvend speaks from personal experience. Very personal.

A turkey baster would probably make a better parent then that whacko Svend Robinson.

After seeing Robinson's wild-eyed comment about a turkey baster, does this mean that he is going to push for benefits and rights for turkey basters too?

And I expect that none of you will make any baster-phobic comments here, or I will be very mad!!!

Svend Robinson and his non-successful
nude calendar debut

Quote:
Earlier this year, Svend Robinson posed for a photo partially naked in an effort to help raise money for an environmental charity. Svend's nude body had sea shells placed over it, covering vital parts. For a donation of $50, you could have a shell removed, revealing a piece of flesh. The campaign has ended, but the site continued to serve the "HUNKS" pages online. That is, until today, when Halifax Live brought this to our readers attention. It is interesting to see that the pages have been removed since we placed a link to them!

The Canadian main stream media is so pathetic. If this was the US, they would have run with the nude Parliamentarian story and had a lot of fun with it. Totally ran Rabinson through the ringer, made him accountable for such bizarre antics. He would not be re-elected that's for sure.

I think I saw one mainstream story on this and then nothing.

Sooooooo pathetic and boring. Embarassed

The reason the seashell thing failed is because they had their strategy backwards. I'd have paid good money to get them to put seashells back on! Very Happy
