A political site like this has a protocol of discourse that is a "cultural microcosm". (A biologist would understand that analogy, right ?).
The "culture shock" of a person randomly walking into the midst of a thread, no less - a Bill Whatcott Thread - would be significant.
The fact that Bill Whatcott uses "shock appeal" to 'wake up' the sleeping Judeo-Christians - there is no doubt in my mind that other people wouldn't have the cultural experience to really understand where Bill is coming from, and I can understand that it would really get to them.
Its like the first time a kitten encounters a barn owl. Even though they weigh the same, the owl totally freaks out the cat with the big talons and wings. (A biologist would understand that analogy, too, right?)
So, what we have here, my friends, is a case of culture shock. ITs the same culture shock I would have if I ever found myself accidently in the "Pussy Playhouse" that is being advertised in the Halifax Gay Pride Parade.
Its the same sort of Culture Shock that would occur when a Saudi Arabian women would walk into a Western Stripper Bar. A multi-dimension moral clashes that has the impact of Superstring Theory.
I can say that I appreciate the innocent and perhaps naive worldview that would make someone conclude that Bill is a lune. However, understand that the anger is misplaced, because Bill is the funniest and freindliest guy a person could ever meet.

I'm sure if they got together, this nice lady/biologist and Bill would be the best of friends.
Lesson: Don't let online chat forums make you really think you know who the person is you're dealing with.

This is actually scarier then I originally thought it would be. A person can put people through this mess both emotionally and financially, (you already need lawyers) because she feels discriminated against by a comment that has no association with her person in any way shape or form. Is this for real? Unbelievable. I am truly stunned.
How much money do we Canadians pay for the HRC?

We have to be careful that we don't cross the line a find ourselves all guilty of harassing this woman. If we stoop to her level we accomplish nothing. Fair comment is one thing, but personally contacting her would probably be too much. I don't know the law, but I think everybody should be careful with this.

Does this woman and Bill have a history?
You mentioned that she followed him here, I am wondering if something else has happened between them.
Seems to me that she should go after him. Although considening he never pays up, that could be the reason why FD is in the bulleye.

I think we all hope that Connie and Mark can get this deflected away from them to Bill Whatcott since it seems clear that it is he the complainant is after. It's not as if FD in any way encourages Bill to post messages on his views on Islam.
And looking at the substance, that's the kind of thing you often see in letters to the editor. Bill's comments may be subject to debate but I don't find them unreasonable given Islam's often violent response to things going on the world; eg, the Pope's comments in Germany, the Danish cartoons etc. No way that this is "hate" speech.
