|
|
For many years, I have occasionally mentioned our dog-girl Taffy ( we are childless by misfortune ) and her adventures with possums, rats, squirrels, sundry delivery/repairmen and day-to-day living.
We had to put her to sleep this morning, after a bad stroke followed a minor one a few days ago. She would have been 14 in another month.
When I ran the wrecker and welder services back in the nineties, I often took her with me, to reassure the frequently alone women I encountered that "if my dog loves and trusts me, I'm probably not an axe murderer..."
She was a true and brave companion, and we had many adventures together.
In the last year she had been failing slowly, but she suddenly could not walk straight and kept falling over. The vet did all she could, but this morning it was obvious she was far worse, and not able to enjoy life even at a drink, eat, and sleep level.
She went peacefully, thank God. And is sorely and sadly missed.
Pardon me if I'm not responsive, I am kind of dead inside.
Here, she was a puppy, sniffing our azelias:
Here, a youngster in the front yard:
Here, getting old, watching TV:
Here, greeting her Mama after work:
Here, old, helping me convert a dead welder into a 10KW lighting plant:
Here, with her favorite squeaky toy:

You'll see her. It may not be soon for you but it's just a blink of the eye for her. When you two cross the bridge, just remember to take the gate that allows dogs.
And I'm sorry for your loss. _________________ "You secular-progressive pinko" - Unnamed FD Poster. |

If you've ever watched 'Actor's Studio', there's a question they ask everybody..."What would you like to hear when you enter Heaven?". What I'd like to hear is "Jassie, Hobbes, Sally, Spike....Daddy's home!"
Geeze, I got choked up typing that...sorry for your loss, man. |

So sorry to hear of your loss.
A special tribute to your pet.
I ONLY WANTED YOU
They say memories are golden
well maybe that is true
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again. _________________ FREE DOMINION FORUM RULES

So sorry for your loss. Here is a special poem. It makes me cry everytime I read it. Losing a pet is like losing a beloved family member. I hope you find comfort. God bless you and your family during your time of grief and loss.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Bless you backhoe and Bless Taffy as well. My wife and I have had dogs in our family since forever it seems. We always have two so that they are company for each other if we are out for the day.
Over the years we have had to say goodbye to these furry family members and it never gets any easier. What we do for them we do out of love, the purest and most sincere motivation for their well being. My wife has always said that dogs are "Angels wrapped in fur". No better friend could we have than our dog.
I send my wishes for divine love to surround you in this time of pain. The sun will shine again and Taffy may be closer to you than you might think. I have had that experience as well. |

| As a dog owner/lover who has had to see several old friends go their own way over the years, I know how painful this can be. My old Basset had a favourite end of the couch and it was so hard not seeing her there all the time. But the great thing about dogs, is that you only have good memories of them. May your memories of your old friend Taffy bring comfort to you and your family. |

I'm so sorry honey. She is out of pain now and looking forward to the day when God brings you to see her. Until then she's often found sniffing the azaelas. _________________ Pardon me Dick, but opinions posted on Free Dominion are those of the individual posters and are not necessarily the opinion of Free Dominion or its operators.

Man, what a bummer.
I have lost several pets in the last 20 years. It's hard. My condolences. _________________ "There are some opinions so stupid, only liberals could hold them"

Sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Taffy. Two years ago, we lost a wonderful dog that we loved dearly. Her name was Jello. She was Beagle, Border cross. She was a great dog. We had had her for 12 years. She truly became a member of the family. It was a very sad day when she died. We still miss her today.
So our family knows of what you are going through. Our prayers are with you. _________________ Take no part in the Fruitless works of Darkness; rather Expose them. Ephesians 5:11

Thank you, all.
She had a good, long life- we saved her from the animal shelter in 1993, when wife Miss Emily's old Shelly had to be put to sleep, and she gave us many years of unjudging love.
Not to mention exasperation- she loved barking at invisible boogers, and trying to trip me in the kitchen when I cooked.
And I swore I would never have another dog, or go through the heartache again... and yet, I already miss having a good dog face greet me when I come home.
They ask so little, and return so much. _________________ All Across America, the Lights are being relit again... |

All good things
by Klaatu
I never had a closer friend than you
I never had such good times
As the ones we used to have together
You're the one I told my problems to
Who through the years remained true blue
No I never had a closer friend than you
But all good things must end
No use trying to pretend it isn't so
When it's time you gotta go
But I never had a better friend than you
I know it sounds a trifle odd
To those who've never had a dog
But I never had a closer friend than you
But all good things must end
No use crying for the dead
And that's a fact
All my tears won't bring you back
And I never had a better friend than you
No I'll never have a better friend than you _________________ re thought police, witch hunts & the Charter.

My sympathies; I have lost two elderly and well-beloved cats recently (one 19 years old, one 20) and although seeing them grow thin and frail reminded me that all flesh is as the grass, it is no easier losing them to the natural progression of age than by misadventure. I'm sure your beloved dog has gone to the Happy Hunting Grounds. Good dogs have their reward. _________________ "There's no getting around the fact that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, and Nancy Pelosi, they were stirring a cauldron when the curtain went up on 'Macbeth'."

Epitaph to a dog
Lord Byron
NEAR this spot
Are deposited the Remains
of one
Who possessed Beauty
Without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
And all the Virtues of Man
Without his Vices.
This Praise, which would be unmeaning flattery
If inscribed over Human Ashes,
Is but a just tribute to the Memory of
"Boatswain," a Dog
Who was born at Newfoundland,
May, 1803,
And died at Newstead Abbey
Nov. 18, 1808. |
