The 24th Annual
George Orwell Free Speech Award
Last Saturday in Victoria, BC, Connie and I proudly accepted the 24th Annual George Orwell Free Speech Award from the Canadian Free Speech League. It was a personal pleasure for me to receive an award named for one of my literary heroes. I encountered the writings of George Orwell decades ago and they effected me so profoundly that they set me on paths of political thought that I continue to travel to this day.
This award is particularly appropriate in view of the Orwellian world Connie and I have had thrust upon us. A world where the State believes it can eradicate human emotions, where truth is not a defense and convictions are assured, where lawfare is an effective means of political coercion, and where people who speak out for our freedom of speech and political thought are labeled by censors as followers of one of history's greatest tyrants and mass murderers. (No, not socialism's Stalin or Mao or Pol Pot. That other guy.)
A variety of speakers at the annual meeting told the 125 people in attendance about their experiences of being crushed by the state. Marc Lemire did a power point presentation that gave an all too brief overview of what he has been through and brought everyone up to date on the latest developments in his case and the CHRC's appeal of the Hadjis ruling on the constitutionality of Section 13. A representative of the battle against the long gun registry spoke and a B.C. couple told a heart-wrenching story of having all their children seized by the B.C. government after a misdiagnosis of shaken-baby syndrome. Arthur Topham spoke of B'nai Brith's CHRC attack on him and we heard a story from a gentleman who has been locked in a battle with the government of B.C. over busking, of all things.
We also received a generous cash award which will go to our legal defense. The battle will go on.
We will never look up to the face of Big Brother, and love him. _________________ "If it takes force to impose your ideas on your fellow man, there is something wrong with your ideas. They're 'celebrating' Mark & Connie's award over at BCL. From the comments:
The award has been won by Zundel, another man who was later indicted for WW2 crimes against humanity and a man who later returned the award claiming the League was a 'front for a Neo-Nazi agenda'.
The event was a 'right-wing cretin fest'.
The participants only care about the right to 'advocate the killing of Jews and homosexuals' and don't really care about any one else's rights. The commentors have never heard any of the participants defend the Little Sister bookstore of Vancouver who has been battling the government over censorship issues for years even winning a Supreme Court ruling only to have the government ignore it.
Anyway, get the idea. |

Needless to say, all who have supported Connie & Mark here on FreeDominion deserve a reach over the shoulder to pat themselves on the back for helping bring about this great honour.

Freedom is the freedom to say 2+2 = 4, if that is granted, all else will follow.
Of course, my heartfelt congratulations.
Its been an honor to serve, in my little way.

Sometimes, a perception of rectitude and "righteousness" is more important than being right. While I join in the congratulations upon winning The 24th Annual
George Orwell Free Speech Award, I fear that the both of you will be tainted through "guilt-by-association" to Doug Christie's Canadian Free Speech League, and other participants at the meeeting on October 10.
Of course our detractors will criticize you for both accepting the award, and participating in the meeting. That is expected. But others more conservative and more mianstream will hear of this from liberal and ideologically opposed sources and will believe that you really are connected with some of the more unsavoury characters of "the right". For far too many people, perceptions are everything and hold more importance than any truth, or being right.
I am concerned that certain individuals within the "Official Jewish" community, as well as elements within the MSM will get the wrong idea about the Fourniers and Free Dominion, from all this.
Finally, I am continously saddened and depressed over the reactions by "liberals", i.e.: the left, specifically the ARC Collective, (who ever they are) and BCL and his coterie of sycophants and fart catchers. That they still don't get it depresses me. Their reactions are hysterical (as we would expect), and indicative of the unhinged. It is truly sad. _________________ "There are some opinions so stupid, only liberals could hold them"

| I believe that the late Wellington Boote-Daley was given this award in 2001, but declined, on the grounds that he never gave a free speech. |

Kudos Connie and Mark. Richly deserved award.
How I wish that such an award was not needed and that you could be spared the indignities you have suffered at the hands of publicly paid bureaucrats. _________________ Hall Monitor of the Shadowy GroupTM
