Green Party antisemitism: Deluded Jewish Audience ?

Matt, a blogger who claims to be part of the Blogging Tories, has released an internal email link from the Green Party.

September 30th, 2008

Quote:

I’ve come into possession of an interesting document. It is a leaked email between Rosemary Frei, Green Party candidate in York Centre, and Daryl Vernon, a Green Party paid lackey and blogger on their official site. Before last weeks debate hosted by B’nai Brith at the Beth Emeth synagogue, Frei ran into some confusion with regards to some of her Green Party talking points.

She emailed Daryl Vernon, the source of her confusion.

Quote:

From: Rosemary Frei (rosefrei@sympatico.ca)
To: Daryl Vernon (ck872@sympatico.ca)

Subject: Q about one line in one of your responses

Quick Q, Daryl - in your answer to the Q about what Canada’s policy should be wrt Iran, you say:

Some interpret Iran’s representations regarding Israel more ambiguously than is reported

What do you mean?

Rosemary

Fair enough question. The situation involving Iran and Israel is a delicate one, and is rather complex. That Rosemary wanted further elaboration on a point isn’t surprising. But it was the response to her email from Daryl Vernon that really caught my eye. But first, the original printout, as I scanned it: scan here

I have retyped the document as it is on paper, trying my best to preserve Daryl’s typographical errors. The emphasis on the reproduction below is mine, and is there to highlight the comment in question:

I would not expand except with great care before a one-sided jewish audience, but the most publicized item from ahmedinejad was imporoperly translater as ‘wipe isr off the emap’, but the quote was not so directly aggressive, was played up by that onesided & partly deluded jewish community; there are other examples, i did a blog mention of the major item, too bad you missed; isr-iran is much more complex than meets the regular eye, it is not simply a question of outright aggressive threat, the u.s. & others must be brouht into consideration, what you can say is-

we know even canada has had directly grave difficulties with iran (kazemi case)

it is outrageous that one u.n. member rhetorically target another as iran isr
(gpc has condemned anti-isr bias in u.n. btw you can say)

greens are utterly contra nuclear weaponry, incl if in possession by isr

iran’s recent ourageous behaviour had been further misinterpreted by many in the west

both iran & isr are lesser power subject to negative pressures by major ones

should come together, as they’ve been friendly in the past & even in the ancient past (although that is not unequivocal either, see other blog entries on this)- definite possibility, & iran also complex mix of competeing forces within it, spewings of their pres. not entirely rpresentative (he might be out soon even)

region despeerately needs their co-operation to further green goals which are overarching & should quickly make co-operations out of enemies (give eg to make impression!!!- oceanic inundation of both parts of tel aviv & gaza, gaza sewage lagoon overflowing to harm ashqelon desalination plant—all ref. in report, see greens CAN talk distinctively about all this!!)

more to say, gotta go, try to call, will see what i can do on phone, am home now

This was the same debate at which Ken Dryden’s wife was heard to express doubt in her husband’s re-election chances, and where one of Rosemary Frei’s GPC t-shirt-clad volunteers equating literature handed out by the Conservatives to “rape“. Frei’s carelessness in leaving behind this document at the synagogue provides a glimpse into the mostly unknown internal workings of the Green Party of Canada. This internal look is showing hints of systematic antisemitism, first with Elizabeth May speaking at the “peace rally”, with most candidates refusing to condemn Hezbollah, and now, evidently, this comment from the warroom to a candidate, written as casually as if it were a common cliché.

It’s a startling statement, really, and part of a common trend we’ve recently seen inside the Green Party. Calling the Jewish community “partly deluded”, and stating we in the west are at fault for having “misinterpreted” Iran’s hostile behaviour is extremely offensive.

Elizabeth May has had trouble recently on the issue of Israel. Pictures of her have surfaced speaking at a so-called “peace” rally of Hezbollah supporters waving Hezbollah flags. It’s my opinion that Elizabeth May should immediately fire Daryl Vernon and have Rosemary Frei issue a statement denouncing the email, but ultimately, I don’t believe she (May) has the insight to realize just how offensive this is and ultimately, I think she won’t demonstrate the leadership required for such a decision.

Inquiries?

This is on top of the Green Party's attack on Richard Jago, for posting the pics of Elizabeth May at the anti-Israel rally in 2006.

Green Party attack on Jago

In that attack on blogger, Jago, the Green Party tried to enlisst the support of B'nai Brith to paint Robert Jago as a White Supremacist

When he says he will destroy them how can you misinterpret it?

One of the things the Arab community has long been guilty of is to put out different press releases in different languages saying very different things. Things that our MSM's dare not convert from Arabic to English. It's not just Israel they want.

Green Party responds to new anti-semitism allegations

Published October 1, 2008

From an email addressed to the ‘A Step to the Right‘ blog:

Your recent blog post (http://splatto.net/blog/?p=921) contains a serious factual error. Daryl Vernon is not a paid employee of the Green Party and does not serve in any capacity in our “war room” (we use the non-military term “nerve centre”). The memo was not issued by the Green Party. We do not know Mr. Vernon but it is our understanding that he is member of the Toronto Jewish community.

Mr. Vernon’s comments do not reflect the views of the Green Party of Canada or York Centre candidate Rosemary Frei. If you care about accuracy, I suggest visiting our website to learn the truth about the Green Party’s position on the Israel/Palestine conflict: http://www.greenparty.ca/en/policy/visiongreen/partfive#IsraelPalestineConflict

Perhaps in the future you will check your posts for factual accuracy before publishing untruths.

Green Party Engages Me, Responds To Internal Email Leak

Posted on October 1st, 2008 by Matt

I didn’t exactly want to get into a confrontation with the Green Party considering their recent actions of calling one critic a white-supremist, and threatening another critic with legal action. Ultimately, I realized any inconvenience to me is trumped by the publics need to know this information, and I was reassured by the hope that the GPC has finished embarrassing itself in it’s response to bloggers and that I won’t be subject to a similar attack.

So, it’s no surprise that my post Green Party Internal Email Leak Reveals Antisemitism resulted in a response from the Green Party. Here is what landed in my inbox minutes before 10am this morning:

You may have seen this email already today. Several people were CC’d, including Robert Jago. The Green Party is definitely out in full force to stop the bleeding. I read Camille’s email a few times over, and thought about it as I made myself breakfast. Afterwards I sat down to pen a reply to her. I sat on the draft reply all day, carefully considering it, and just now sent the following response:

Quote:

Hi Camille. I’m sure you are already aware I never intended to nor tried to pass off the contents of the email as the Green Party’s position. The point isn’t what the Green Party says in public, it’s what it says in private. That said, the topic at hand was Iran/Israel, not Palestine/Israel. Therefore the link you provided left me curious.

I acknowledge the error in my assumption that he was a paid GPC employee. Considering he is in a position to advise your candidates on GPC policy and talking points, it seemed quite obvious to me that he was. I will correct the record.

Also, what relevance does a person’s ethnicity have in cases of racism?

One last line of questioning. Former GPC leader Jim Harris blogs on the official GPC site in the same capacity that Vernon does. Does the Green Party of Canada not believe that allowing a person such as Vernon to publish his comments on the party’s site gives a weight of credibility to his words, as well as an appearance of an endorsement of what he says? Please note this is not a question about the GPC’s policy.

Along that same line of questioning - How does one get a blog on greenparty.ca? Is there a vetting process? Are blogs monitored for hate speech? What is the procedure for removing a blog? What policy does the GPC have for policing the on-line community they financially support with free hosting? Do donations to the party go to supporting offensive speech on hosted blogs?

Rafael at Trapped in Suburbia has dug up other interesting musings by Daryl Vernon written on the GPC’s official website. For example: “It would be a further travesty if we were to be so taken by the manipulative political hogwash south of our border that is driving to put Obama & his ‘color revolution’ subverter associates in just such a place of command & control…”

I await the Green Party’s clarification on their policy of hosting blogs of party supporters on the site.

Trapped in Suburbia - follow up

I decided to do a quick scan of the Green Party website looking for more posts from Daryl Vernon and I came across the following blog comment Daryl posted in response to an article:

Quote:

Brian, you’re not letting go of this, we see. When hopefully persuasive language is pretty much all one has, what one’s words conjure are an essential matter. I have spoken against GPC rhetoric invoking moon launch, Americana, Churchill & Chamberlain, WW-whatever, &c. There is no place any longer for this stuff in real green minds. Some ideals, methods & institutions, with important reformation, from the grossly destructive modern age should be used, lest we face, I agree, ruin
(an example at http://www.greenparty.ca/en/node/4574#comment-4800).

But one has to just drop most of the mainstream historical Anglo world heroes & heroic activities as models. Greens cannot come to prescribe centralized command & control, as your rhetoric suggests. Central power should back up & be educative for local adaptations. Canada is a true world leader in cross-jurisdictional administrativia, although the EU seems to be catching up. Our success in large part is a result of isolation from armed conflict. Our green failures have been for going along with so much Anglo warlike leadership. “Thinkers” behind the Cons. like to proudly point to things like Vimy Ridge being utterly formative or our country. It is a travesty that it was so (see http://www.greenparty.ca/en/node/2581#comment-1795, esp. end). It would be a further travesty if we were to be so taken by the manipulative political hogwash south of our border that is driving to put Obama & his “color revolution” subverter associates in just such a place of command & control, and above all positioning for more & even increased, believe it, belligerence abroad. If you & others persist in making appeal to “war efforts”, you are playing further into the century-long continuum of violent depredation that manipulators will likely easily slide an acquiescent public into after their assimilation to more grandiloquent hogwash.

Stop the war-talk. I repeat what I said at http://www.greenparty.ca/en/node/3265, “If English-speaking people can still only be largely motivated to great causes by warlike rhetoric, I truly think there is no hope for them in the end.”

The emphasis in the above quote is mine, I’ll repeated the bolded text on its own for clarity:
Quote:

It would be a further travesty if we were to be so taken by the manipulative political hogwash south of our border that is driving to put Obama & his “color revolution” subverter associates in just such a place of command & control

It certainly seems that Daryl Vernon isn’t that big a fan of Barack Obama. I find myself wondering if the Green Party shares his position that Obama’s associates are ‘color revolution subverters’ trying to put Obama in a position of command and control?
