|

This is priceless. First the Tories recruit a flaming homo-activist, then he sabotages them by making these "right wing" comments. I don't believe for a second that this guy believes anything he wrote about guns, abortion, the CHRCs or the Indian Act. What better way to get inside the tent, make comments you know will be viewed by the media as outrageous and in line with the media's stereotype of the "right wing extremist", then you bail on the party who nominated you once you light the fuse. The Tories' efforts to pander to the homo community made them blind to this subterfuge. It looks good on them.

Globe and Mail Update
September 21, 2008 at 3:10 PM EDT
OTTAWA — The Tories have lost a candidate in downtown Toronto who was running against Liberal incumbent Bob Rae.
The Conservatives say Toronto Centre Tory candidate Chris Reid resigned this weekend after telling them that he couldn't commit to serving four years in government.
The Liberals, however, are alleging it was controversial comments posted online by Mr. Reid that led to his departure.
The Tories distanced themselves from Mr. Reid's online writing on Sunday and refused to discuss it.
“Anything that he's put on this blog is not reflective of anything the Conservative party represents and he has withdrawn as a candidate,” Tory spokesman Mike Storeshaw said.
“He is no longer a candidate for us.”
Mr. Reid, an openly-gay environmental engineer, was also a candidate for Toronto City Council in 2006. A blog written by someone identifying themselves as Mr. Reid has been shut down but copies of its web pages, archived by search engine Google, indicate the writer had strong ideas about how to change Canada.
Recommendations posted on this blog under the title “Political Thoughts by a Gay Conservative” include: closing the CBC; ending Human Rights Commissions and hate speech laws; ending abortion; allowing “qualified and trained” citizens to carry concealed handguns; and ending the Indian Act and the reservation system.
“These policies just keep Indians and their corrupt leaders dependent on the state and unable to ever have the freedom to succeed,” the blogger wrote under the name Chris Reid.
As for his recommendation that Canadians be allowed to carry concealed handguns, the blogger wrote: “It's the only proven way to reduce violent crime and murder. If women and gays really wanted to stop being victims of hate crimes, they'd be in support of this, but judging from discussions, they'd rather be helpless and rely on government.”
While the Tories refused to comment or explain the allegations against Mr. Reid, the party quickly returned fire on the Liberals, saying that Ontario Liberal candidate Rebecca Finch has written offensive things about Conservative Leader Stephen Harper and victims of natural disasters who voted for right-wing parties.
Conservatives pointed to the online writings of Ms. Finch, the Liberal candidate in the riding of Dufferin-Caledon, on a site called metaball.ca, where she is listed as an editor.
In March 2008, the Tories allege, Ms. Finch compared Mr. Harper to Adolf Hitler. “Let's start with the really nasty stuff, though, the stuff that conjures up comparisons to Hitler or Stalin,” reads a post on the metaball.ca website written by Ms. Finch. “Let's talk about a damaged psychology, a malevolent personality disorder, and lessons that we, the discerning public who are ultimately affected by these characters, should have already learned.”
Tories also allege Ms. Finch dismissed the suffering of victims of natural disasters who voted for right-wing parties: “These are echoes of my impassioned heart breaking when I say perhaps we should feel little sympathy for those right-voting victims of recent natural disasters, for those who have ignored instinct and common sense so they can continue to stuff themselves with superficial gluttony,” reads another post by Ms. Finch on metaball.ca. |

Odd. I've done some work for our new candidate and future MP Earl Dreeshen, who'll replace Bob Mills in Red Neck Deer. His application package to even pursue the party nomination last spring was 72 pages deep, including extremely personal questions about the lives and habits of his adult children.

Perhaps he has a bum buddy in a certain riding near the Nation's capital? |

He was probably appointed by the party to run there and handpicked. There are very few real conservatives that live in downtown Toronto, and I don't remember a nomination meeting being held there (or anyone interested there). The new candidate is a PMO hack. |

Not only that but 5 people applied and only two were excepted were excepted for candidates.
I won't work or vote for anyone who's party has that much control over my representative. |

I know Chris Reid from facebook. I've never known him to be anything but a real good guy. I like him a lot, actually. _________________ Follow Me on Twitter |

It's so funny to see the piling on Chris Reid from the righteous on this website.
The points that got him in trouble on his blog are actually red-meat Conservative views that would normally be applauded here.
Him being gay doesn't make him a better or worse Conservative. It probably did him a lot of good in Toronto-Centre, which is the heart of the gay community in Canada. |

Some people are capable of seeing Chris Reid for being a hypocrite that he is. Those statements on his blog are not the normal views of a homosexual.
This smells like a setup on his part. _________________ Thinking like a peasant will always result in debt and slavery.

He may be the nicest guy in the solar system but if he's a homosexer he's mentally ill and thus unfit for public office.

Reddog, I'm happily married, to a woman. Thanks for inquiring though.
So I guess you think John Baird ought to be expelled from the Conservatives?
Chris Reid is not an unknown in Ontario Conservative circles. He was not a plant. |

Hopefully he is defeated in this election. I know the Liberals have a really strong candidate up against him, and while I don't normally want the Liberals getting seats (especially one with a poor record), Baird MUST go. |
