Russia's Concept for Dominating Europe
by J. R. Nyquist
Weekly Column Published: 08.15.2008

M oscow’s blitzkrieg in Georgia is more than a military campaign. It is designed to empower Russia’s diplomatic strategy, which seeks to make the European Union (EU) the West’s chief representative in future negotiations with Russia. Quite naturally the Kremlin wants to escape the logic of U.S. and NATO policy, which is to contain Russia within her national borders. Meanwhile, the European Union is an entirely different animal: toothless, utopian and ready to please.

The Kremlin strategists believe that the United States is on the brink of a crippling dislocation. According to a July 29 Pravda article, an anonymous Russian diplomat revealed that the “Russian administration believes the United States may soon suffer from a serious political crisis.” The sequence begins with a financial crash, advances to political unrest and finally to the dissolution of American military power. As the Russian diplomat warned, “America is standing on the verge of a large-scale crisis of its own existence.”

Last month Russia’s ambassadors were called back to Moscow. On July 15 President Dmitry Medvedev spoke to them at the Foreign Ministry. “I would like to use this opportunity for an open and pragmatic conversation,” explained Medvedev to the assembled diplomats. “Russia is indeed stronger and able to assume greater responsibility for solving problems on a regional and global scale.” You see, the Cold War was not an American victory. Medvedev reminded his colleagues that they had “survived the Cold War.” And now Russia is prepared to establish “a new equilibrium.” continued

Did y'all know that Medved is Russian for bear?

For some reason, when I see this guy on TV, I think of those bears in Coquitlam and North Vancouver that break into peoples' houses and empty out the honey jar.

Russia today is governed by an exclusive club of millionaires and billionaires, and their main interests are keeping resource prices high for greater cash flow, and Russian national pride.

Almost everything else can be left for the local governments to fix up or hide behind painted fences.

They sure know how to rattle the saber, but we are not too sure how much appetite they have for actual fighting, they seem to prefer pushing very small countries around, and even there, they pick targets such as groups of parked cars and empty ships in a harbour.

Going head to head with NATO in Poland might be a bit more of an ask, and while we might come out quite bloodied, they would likely come out like one bigger version of Chernobyl, and out of business for another generation. Too bad, so sad.

This reminds me of the published speech of a top former USSR official who testified in a criminal trial against the former communist party for criminal activities such as murder.

He said that the apparent collapse of the USSR was merely a tactic to disarm the opposition to communism and allow soviet style Marxism to rise to power in Western Europe, in the form of the European Union.

It looks to me like the new Russian plan is the same as the old soviet plan, .... Intimidation.

One point that draw the same conclusion is they view NATO and the European Union as a joke.
In every war the Russians know the West will back down or negotiated a peace treaty to bail out.
Question is how far will the West will go ;and are they willing to back it up?
History is repeating itself and the same conclusion are happening.
East block country's may have to defend themselves as the West capitulate.
Russia will black mail its old satellite country's into submission by the use of its oil and gas pipeline with Europe.
The Russian bear just sleep until it gather its wealth and strength to hit back at its own pace.
The West has gone fat and lazy.
They either get a back bone or end up under the control of the Russian Bear influence.
