Husband and I just got back from it, ourselves.

It was quite good, lots of people.

We held a "Life-Chain" along Sussex with signs saying "REVOKE" and " 'ODOUR' OF CANADA" along with the "ABORTION HURTS WOMEN" signs that are used at every March for Life and Life Chain. A few people had home-made signs, too. One read "DIS-ORDER OF CANADA," for example. Along Sussex we got a ratio of about 5 thumbs-up to every middle-finger up from passing motorists.

About a half-dozen priests present in their black suits and dog collars, and one Eastern Catholic priest in his long black robes. And a good cross-section of all age groups represented amongst the laity.

There were a number of media out: A-Channel, CTV and CBC that I could tell. And CFRA radio.

A Thousand Attend Ottawa Rally Demanding Order of Canada to Abortionist be Revoked

"Revoke the Award and Change Advisory Council," say Protestors

OTTAWA, July 9, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - "Revoke the award, absolutely no question - but it is not enough," said spokesperson Angelina Steenstra. Today, in front of the Governor General's residence, a thousand people gathered to protest the Order of Canada award to Henry Morgentaler, and the conflictive interest with the revocation process.

Although cloudy, hot and humid, no rain fell on the demonstrators who held signs reading: REVOKE, "We Desire A Better Country" and "Henry Morgentaler made a killing off our generation please don't honor him". Banners read: "Abortion is a crime against humanity."

The crowd was calm and subdued. There was a significant media presence as well.

Steenstra, speaking on behalf of Campaign Life Coalition, and as co-founder of "Silent No More Awareness", a post-abortion outreach, stated that, "… the very advisory council that recommended Henry Morgentaler receive the award, also evaluates requests for its revocation. That is unacceptable; this obvious conflict of interest must change."

She added that giving the highest Canadian award to an individual who, for 40 years, has earned his living - not by saving babies, but by aborting them - causes national division. "Henry Morgentaler has not consoled the thousands of Canadian mothers and fathers who are still suffering … and he is unrepentant."

She insisted that if the Governor General does not appoint an independent council to handle the revocation process, then the Prime Minister and members of parliament must ensure that a change take place. Steenstra argued, "Without this change, the same division could arise again next year.

Abortion is always divisive, it tears the mother and father from the child and, it tears the fabric of our nation," said Steenstra.

Rally at Rideau Hall sends a strong message to Canada
By Online Thursday, July 10, 2008

The rally today at Rideau Hall was a tremendous success. After standing on Parliament Hill for Canada Day (prior to the announcement) with our team of interns it was SO POWERFUL to see how much this force has grown in just a week! Thank you to Campaign Life Coalition for their awesome leadership in organizing this rally today! We were thrilled to be a part of it - young and old united for such an amazing cause! We are certain you will be seeing much about it in the news tonight/tomorrow. For now, here are a few photos for you to catch the some of the sights of the afternoon.

Join the “Oppose Morgentaler’s Order of Canada” Facebook group to see even more photos from the rally. The group is now over 10,000 members! [Click here to join.]

3 ORDER OF CANADAs RETURNED IN PROTEST TO MORGENTALER’S APPOINTMENT

Three appointees to the Order of Canada have officially returned their award in protest of Morgentaler’s appointment to the Order. Word on the street is that there are others considering returning theirs as well. This is tangible evidence that Morgentaler’s appointment has diminished the value of this award significantly. The Governor General needs to hear this message loud and clear. We are praying this is just a small first fruits of a flood of ‘returns’ that will be coming. If you know of someone who has received the Order of Canada and who does not agree with Morgentaler’s appointment, please encourage them to return it.

Morgentaler's award spurs Ottawa demo
By KATHLEEN HARRIS, NATIONAL BUREAU CHIEF

OTTAWA -- Hundreds of placard-toting protesters, including scores of women who have had abortions, are expected to gather outside Rideau Hall today to oppose the controversial decision to honour Dr. Henry Morgentaler with the Order of Canada.

Denise Mountenay, founder and president of the Canada Silent No More, said many women suffer physical or psychological damage after having legal abortions. She calls it "appalling" that Morgentaler is being honoured for his work championing "abortion on demand."

"He broke the laws to change the laws to bring in lawlessness," she said from her home near Edmonton yesterday.

Mountenay said an abortion at age 16 left her with a damaged cervix, a scarred uterus and trouble conceiving years later. Other women suffer depression, suicide attempts and eating disorders post-abortion, and many hope to file lawsuits against doctors who perform abortions without adequately warning patients about the health and psychological harms.

"Women are not being informed about all of the risk factors, including breast cancer, depression, anxiety disorders," she said. "First you have a sense of relief, but it's very shortlived, because then comes the grief. One day it hits you, and when it hits you, it's devastating."

Marie-Christine Houle, a spokeswoman for Campaign Life Coalition, hopes today's protest spurs more debate on Morgentaler and the issue of abortion in general.

"We hope it will keep the debate to the consciousness of people. We believe it's important to keep this debate in the public sphere, and we hope the government will act," she said.

REVERSE DECISION

Protesters will demand that Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean reverse the advisory council's decision to award Morgentaler, but Rideau Hall spokeswoman Lucie Caron said the GG does not have authority to arbitrarily reverse a recommendation from the independent 11-member body.

"The decisions of the council are final," she said.

Only two Canadians have lost the Order since its inception in 1967 -- Alan Eagleson after a conviction for defrauding hockey players and David Ahenakew after he was found guilty of promoting hatred for anti-Semitic remarks.

This week, a B.C. priest and Catholic charity Madonna House returned Order of Canada medals to protest the Morgentaler award -- the first snowflake pins to be voluntarily forfeited in Canadian history.

No date has yet been set for the ceremony to present Morgentaler with the award.

1,000 Attend Ottawa Rally Demanding Order of Canada to Abortionist be Revoked

Steenstra told the national media and a crowd of nealy a thousand supporters from across Eastern and Southern Ontario, that abortion tears a child from its mother, father, family and nation. She recounted that, as herself a victim of abortion, there is nothing dignified nor heroic in choosing to kill a baby and that certainly the highest honour in the land cannot be given to the country's most notorious abortionist.

The crowd lined Sussex Drive in front of the Prime Minister's and Governor General's residences. Surrounded by supporters and signs, Steenstra led all in prayer for the conversion of Henry Morgentaler and for the healing of the nation.

Many supporters approached her after the presentation and thanked her and Campaign Life Coalition for their clear direction on how the government should act in the midst of this divisive award selection.

Steenstra told the media that CLC will be monitoring the Governor General's decisions closely in this regard over the coming days and weeks. She concluded by stating, "This debasing of the Order of Canada award and our nation, must end immediately."

Mark and I were there. Sorry we missed you, Felix. We looked for you, but it was a big crowd!

We thought it was at 11am, so we were among the first to arrive.

We were there about 11:30. I was looking for youse guys too! Would have wanted to go out for lunch afterwards..... I guess we should have actually picked a spot to meet at or something, in retrospect.

But it *WAS* a big crowd---found out several of my friends were there, but I never saw them either!
