B.C. priest returning Order of Canada over Morgentaler
A Vancouver-area priest who received the Order of Canada 25 years ago says he will return his award rather than be associated with abortion rights activist Henry Morgentaler.................................

I know Father Larre he’s a kind, good natured soul with an amazing sense of humor. He runs Bosco Home for trouble youth. They’re not the usual trouble youth you’d expect. They are the children no one wants. They are the now teenaged kids born with fetal alcohol syndrome or have some other extreme psychological abnormalities, you know, the shove-a- gun-in-your-face kind of kid.
Catholics in BC will know him; he makes the parish rounds once each year to raise money for Bosco Home.
What’s quite extraordinary about this priest is that he can barely walk. Father Larre had polio as a child and had to teach himself to walk again. He drags his leg, can only stand for short length of time, and is always in pain. You wouldn’t know it though he always has a smile on his face.
Daring and sometimes controversial, Father Larre has always been the one to step up to the plate and does the right thing. God bless him.

We should think of a name for a medal and have a very high quality one sent to him for his integrity and honour on behalf of all those that respect what he stands for. It would be representative of much more than the Order of Canada obviously. I will chip in and have it made it that is a worthy idea. If not, no probs either. |

They shouldn't either. Just because Morgentaler may have used his training for destructive purposes there is no need for other doctors to throw away their careers.
But in this case the OC is for those who have added to Canadian society; being an abortion doctor Morgentaler has not met that test. It is quite proper then for other recipients to return their OC if they feel Morgentaler's awarding of it has degraded the Order.

That's why I said the priest's return of the medal only goes so far. No Canadian citizen is going to turn in their citizenship just because Morgentaler also has Canadian citizenship. |

I think this is a wonderful act to show just how repugnant abortion is to sensible people.
I’m curious if any other Order of Canada recipients will follow Father Larre’s lead. It certainly demonstrates which recipients truly had unselfish motives in their contributions to Canadian society.
