Dead in bed for two years
By DEAN PRITCHARD, STAFF REPORTER
Residents of a River Heights condominium complex were in shock yesterday after police recovered the remains of a neighbour dead for two years. "We thought he had gone away for holidays or something," said Bertha Claeys who lived across the hall from the man.
Claeys and other neighbours at the 870 Cambridge South condominium identified the man as Jim, a resident in the building since the mid-1980s.
Claeys said the man was in his late 40s or early 50s, suffered from multiple sclerosis and had been living on a disability pension.
Claeys said she believed city police were called to the man's second-floor apartment after a report of irregularities with his finances.
Police found the man's remains on his bed, reduced to only bones, said neighbour Sam Shuster.
Shuster described Jim as a friendly man, but a loner.
"From what I understand he has relatives but nobody speaks to one another," said Shuster, 84.
Shuster said residents often wondered where Jim had gone but were told his condominium fees were still being paid.
'WHERE IN THE HELL IS HE?'
"How can that happen, for God's sake. Two years!" Shuster said.
"I used to ask the president of the board of directors where in the hell is he? She said all she knew was the bank gets the monthly money so we don't worry about it."
The cause of the man's death was unknown. City police said an autopsy was expected to be performed on the remains today.
"Hopefully it was just natural causes. We should know more tomorrow after the autopsy," said duty Insp. Darryl Preisentanz.

Where were all of the organizations that are highly paid to make sure this kind of thing does not happen. I would really like to see his file to see when his worker was supposedly in touch with him. _________________ FREE DOMINION FORUM RULES

Like you say, this could be a symptom of the socialist bureaucracy that claims to deliver services to meet human needs. Bureaucrats, not citizens continue to be the beneficiaries of tax dollars as direct services continue to diminish while administration increases and regardless of whether funding is increased or decreased. There are countles examples of this almost everywhere you look from CCACs in Ontario to hospitals, education, WCB/WSIB etc. etc.
On the lighter side, this story reminds me: has anyone seen Joe Clark lately? |

I have a worker apparently althought they have not been in touch with me since the 1970's. Guess I could be bones too before the check in. _________________ FREE DOMINION FORUM RULES

Not much of an autopsy if there is nothing left but a skeleton.

Hot damn! Just yesterday those were the exact same words my neighbour's wife uttered when describing her husband. _________________ He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me |

He's been switching back and forth for years. And, typically, does the same between the Liberals and NDP. _________________ He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me |
