Toronto council votes to intervene in gun registry suit

TORONTO - Against the advice of city legal staff, councillors ordered city legal staff to try to intervene in a gun registry court fight.

City council vote 20-13 on Friday to order the city solicitor to seek leave to intervene in support of the Barbra Schlifer Clinic’s motion for an injunction to stop the destruction of long-gun registry data.

The Toronto legal clinic is fighting in the courts to save the registry the federal Conservatives have already voted to scrap.

Just before the vote, Mayor Rob Ford called any fight to maintain the gun registry “a waste of taxpayers’ money.”....................http://www.torontosun.com/2012/07/13/to ... istry-suit

From the comments?

What bothers me is the politicians are gung ho when it comes to guns owned by hunters , target shooters etc. etc. When are they going to put that effort and money into the real problem which is gangs, drugs etc.I can,t believe there are so many stupid people running our governments...

How odd! A citizen has a better handle on this than his "betters" in Da Gooberment...

How many long guns have been used at Jane and Finch or to shoot up Eaton Centre?

Leftists require absolute control over people. They are irrelevant without it.

This is all based on and spawns from the minds of old school feminist eccentrics - former hippies who live in the Beaches - in comfort and luxury..These now old ladies believe that all long guns are the primary tool used by abusive "angry" men to dispatch their wives..that's it...They have no concern for the nasty boys living in our subsidized ghettos who are popping off a few caps into the back of anyone that "disrespects" them - cos' all a gangsta needs is a hug..

The true reality is- once long gun information is logged in- You may as well keep it...When the cops come to a door where a couple of white trash losers are having a drunken domestic- It's probably better to know if old Joe is hunter with something in the closet that can penetrate a few bullet proof vests...It's the motivation of these old council members that is bothersome...go to where the problem is- Jane and Finch and Melborne ...forget about drunken Joe and his 303 ..He is not the real threat...

Why are they dealing with this stuff?

In Calgary city council deals with issues like snow removal and garbage collection and tunnel building and buses and stuff...

Why is Toronto focusing on these weird issues?

Toronto is the nerd capital of Canada...The nerds you knew in high school run the city. They are all about sophisticated and benevolent elitism that boarders on some weird left wing gone bad fascism.

The left has gone so far left they popped up on the far extreme right of the spectrum..In my gentrified neighborhood there is a club I used to play at...it was a good tough cross section of real people- They went out of business..gentry dared not enter because some of the people sitting at the bar looked street wise.

Later a small place opened up and I asked if I could entertain in there...The simply did not like me because they could smell old time conservatism...I was not sophisticated - because I was not bi-sexual...was "too old" - was a father of a bunch of adult kids that they knew- none of them had kids...They knew my music "rocked" and was good and intense- So they just hired their friends who were all lefties- gay or bi- and passive...

The art scene is the same- If you have work better than they have in their gallery- They will refuse to deal with you-- Toronto is a socialist town that love mediocrity ...full of weak people who gather together to swarm and bully the strong..It's de-evolutionary.

They allow mentally ill people to roam the street and die- all in the name of liberal freedom..and only talk about how they are going to help but never do.

Toronto is backward...the city is up side down- Those who should be at the top and leading are oppressed...and the worst have organized and pushed their way to the top..That's socialism for you...Take over a system by sheer numbers - It's like some arch capitalist has mobilized all the drone ants and deploys them to harass and destroy anyone that might be strong and independent...Toronto is a town run on submission.....If Toronto was a prophet..the citizens would be Muslims...It;s a weird place- and if you are poor- It's the finest prison in the world.

Well, all I can think of is . . . after all, it IS Toronto. Wouldn't expect anything less of these airheads.

Yah...next thing they are going to do is out law murder..yep that would do it-no murder within the bounds of the GTA...or how about banning cigarettes or at least those people who smoke them out side... Nothing more stupid than some brain washed politically correct idiot jogging by and frantically waving the smoke away from her face as she passes...meanwhile my smoke is unlit...That is the state of Toronto.
