Storm Front (weather that is)

Postby RedDog » 07/ 03/ 12 4:09 pm

Being lashed to smithereens here by sheet hail with all traffic stopped. They must have added tornado watches by now. You would be hurt going outside. Thunder is moving the house. The cat is in hysterics.

Once again, this is not the temperature I would normally associate with this violence.

Adumbration's galore
(From Sound the Trumpet.ca)
Powerful M-Class flare ejected from the Sun – July 2, 2012
Big sunspot AR1515 erupted on July 2nd at 10:52 UT, producing an M5.6-class solar flare that almost crossed the threshold into X-territory. A pulse of x-rays and UV radiation from the flare illuminated Earth’s upper atmosphere, producing waves of ionization over Europe. Such waves alter the propagation of low-frequency radio transmissions.

It's passed. I think. It looks like it snowed an inch. We may have had as much precipitation in 30 minutes as Tuscan has in a year.

With this crazy weather watch the market gardeners prices go through the roof. The is however if they have anything left to sell.

My daughter and her guy just sent an iphone video of them driving in 2 ft of water past a number of stalled vehicles, somewhere in Red Deer.

Heavy rain....damaging winds.......massive hail.....
Summer has arrived in the province. The air mass above must be very very cold to generate this kind of weather. A pleasant heavy downpour of the average variety hit west Edmonton later this afternoon. Many a year has the Whitemud flooded in parts. Hot weather this weekend could signal even fiercer storms.

Still......the corridor between Rocky and Red Deer. Hit a supercell or something one year a way back. Thought the hail would smash the truck's windshield et al to bits. Thankfully it didnt.
The topography just has to play into the more violent weather y'all get down there in Redneck Deer. I never did bother doing any serious research on the matter, but there must be some studies published. Maybe a bit of fed guvvehment $$$ put to better use.

What ever it was that slammed Alberta and is causing havoc in Saskatchewan should be arriving here about breakfast time. The warnings have already hit the airwaves.

Over the long term that is not unusual. The area from Rocky through to Red Deer is historically a hail belt. Ask the old timers......like me :D

I just got in from work and it's raining again but there is standing hail on the lawn again so it appears another wave of the storm cell blasted through not all that long ago. I was not outside for several hours so was unaware of the situation. I'm seeing they had tornados touch down west of Didsbury causing damage, that being between Red Neck Deer and Calgary. One of our FDers lives in Didsbury.

I see locally some of the retail flooding was only five blocks south of me and maybe ten blocks north, the river being in-between and it was already running extremely high to the near point of breeching the banks. It's about 150 yards from the house but being dark I can't see it's state at this hour.

July 4th and you can see you breath.....at least at 0530H one could. Reminds me of a few Julys of old. They do not call them cold fronts for nothing here. :)

A good day to enjoy a cigar during T.A.M. ,which we already did. :)

Showers may not wash my cares away as we wake up to another cold rainy day....."

You can have your bagels plain, if it keeps you sane, but I best be on my way, in the early morning rain."

Once again Edmonton has cleverley avoided the centre of the storm. We got a bit of rain (still dribbling) and a bit of wind but nothing like what they got west and south of here.

Glad to see you and your mortified moggy have made it through RedDog.

Thanks. It's violently windy here with wind warnings. I noticed a few minutes ago the hot tub cover was no longer on the hot tub and wonder how long that was the case. A ton of heat lost there causing global warming.

It's 5 degrees and likely hasn't bottomed out yet. I'll have the heater on in the car going to work... in July. I see both Jasper and Banff are showing +2c. Better have good sleeping bags in the tent at Tunnel Mountain.
