Nova Scotia Student Suspended For Jesus Shirt

It is sad that it has come to this, but we think it is time to have a forum for the discussion of cases where people are in prison for their political beliefs. Freedom-loving Canadians should be willing to stand up for political prisoners, even if they don't agree with them...even if we find their ideas abhorrent. We must fight for freedom of political thought and peaceful protest!

If he suspended again - this is the seventh time - he won't be able to finish his last year of high school. Swinimer, his father and the pastor at his church say the staff at the school are bullying the devout Christian teen for his religious beliefs

"We do ask that students express their views in a way that would not be interpreted as a criticism of their beliefs," explains Supt. Nancy Pynch-Worthylake.

Nova Scotia Education Minister Ramona Jennex says she is standing behind the board's decision.

Nancy Pynch-Worthylake, board superintendent, said some students and teachers found the T-shirt offensive.

"When one is able or others are able to interpret it as, 'If you don't share my belief then your life is wasted,' that can be interpreted by some as being inappropriate," she said.

"The students who complained to the principal took the shirt’s slogan to mean “Your life is wasted without Jesus,” she said, which could reasonably be construed as a judgment."

Isn't that the province where a teacher called the RCMP because a male high school student wore aftershave she found offensive? They seem very sensitive in Nova Scotia. I remember being on the ferry once when I was visiting and seeing the no smoking signs on the outside deck of the ferry, marveling at such sophistication. I think I also saw someone kicked off a bus for having a cup of TH coffee.

those poor Nova Scotians sitting there, "My Lar, I'm all a-shiver. The horror!" Clearly not the sort of young person we want in society.

If you look at the design of the shirt, the font for "wasted" is all wobbly like it is a play on words to make the reader think he means wasted on drugs or alcohol. Then the punch line is in small letters at the bottom. It is not meant to be offensive. But, even if it was, he should be allowed to express his opinion. I see stuff that offends me all the time. That's life.

Don't break the rule of the school then.

This kid just wants to be a martyr at this point. So screw him, go to a different school if he refuses to follow the rules.

It is offensive. He is telling everybody if you dont believe in his brand of christianity your life is wasted. That is offensive especially to others who are not even christian. What does that say to a jewish kid or a hindu kid.

They are very strict about clothing at my kids public school about clothing. My kid knows right away what is allowed and what is not allowed. This is nothing new.

Plus, I read this morning he spends half his day running around trying to convert kids to being born again.
