Effective? It was never proven to have prevented one single crime.

Some even said it made policing more dangerous because it gave police a false sense of security if police entered a residence. After all, only half of all long guns were ever registered,usually by the most law abiding citizens.

Some police detachments were set up so that any police search of an individual would automatically reveal if he was a gun owner and what rifle he owned. A driver gets pulled over for not wearing a seat belt,and an officer needs to know if he owns a shotgun? This is how the registry was refered to so often,not out of need at all.

For the $250 that it cost to register every long gun, would it have been better served to hire a few more judges and remove some backlogs in our criminal justice system?

How many lives could have been saved by spending these wasted billions on health care or improving our roads?
