Israel knew this was coming. They have been looking at getting gas from the Cyprus area, but there is border issues between Turkey and Greece.

The Muslim brotherhood seems to be becoming entrenched in the Middle East.

The American empire appears to be dying.

The best thing that Israel can do to ensure its future is to make a two state solution with Palestinians and try harder for peace with its neighbours. Demographic and economic factors are not looking in Israels favour.

The Islamisation of the west may also make it politically unacceptable in the future to help defend Israel as well.

I do not really see most Jews as being military oriented either. Their participation rates in the US military, for instance, have historically been very low.
