We have just heard that Aunt Ethelyn, who turned 101 on September 23, is now slipping away; Hospice is at her nursing home and in accordance with her Living Will, no heroic measures will be taken, only palliative care to keep her comfortable.
And race driver Dan Wheldon was killed at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in an IRL, er, open wheel race car.
It has not been a good week and it is only one day old.
It is a difficulty we all face as we age - family members and friends cast off their anchor lines and slip away from us, due to age or illness, which is not helped by accidents that take away family and friends suddenly and unexpectedly and too soon. May the Lord look afer you Kate, and ease your pain in difficult times.
