A Poem for Thanksgiving

The year has turned its circle,
The seasons come and go.
The harvest all is gathered in
And chilly north winds blow.
Orchards have shared their treasures,
The fields, their yellow grain,
So open wide the doorway,
Thanksgiving comes again.

Remember Your Friends This ThanksgivingThanksgiving poem

To: God.com

Dear Lord,
Every single evening
As I'm lying here in bed,
This tiny little Prayer
Keeps running through my head:
God bless all my family
Wherever they may be,
Keep them warm
and safe from harm
For they're so close to me.

And God, there is one more thing
I wish that you could do;
Hope you don't mind me asking,
Please bless my computer too.

Now I know that it's unusual
To Bless a motherboard,
But listen just a second
While I explain it to you, Lord.

You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends;
Inside those small compartments
Rest so many of my friends.

I know so much about them
By the kindness that they give,
And this little scraps of metal
Takes me in to where they live.

By faith is how I know them
Much the same as you.
We share in what life brings us
And from that our friendships grew.

Please take an extra minute
From your duties up above,
To bless those in my address book
That's filled with so much love.

Wherever else this prayer may reach
To each and every friend,
Bless each e-mail inbox
And each person who hits 'send'.

When you update your Heavenly list
On your own Great CD-ROM,
Bless everyone who says this prayer
Sent up to God.com
Amen

Happy Thanksgiving to you all in Canada!

To celebrate Columbus Day, I am going to walk into a stranger's house today and announce that it is now my house.

Awesome! Make sure you take the time to pick a good one though. You wouldn't want to take on a lemon that's going to end up costing you lots of money.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all
The most effective way to stifle democracy is to transfer decision-making from the public arena to unaccountable institutions: activist judges, human rights tribunals, parliamentary committees, civil service bureaucrats and political party hacks.

I think this was the best Thanksgiving of my life. I will never forget it. I am grateful for my family more than ever. I am also grateful to have a new friend that has made me optimistic about the human spirit and the future.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.

Thanks Red Dog. Imagine if you did not have a family to miss. There are those who have no family at all. Today is a curse for them. We are very fortunate.

Indeed. I'm a turkey dinner scrounger (again) this year. I had to go to Edmonton with (Red Sox) hat in hand. Everyone at my sister's in Louisiana now; in Virginia at US Thanksgiving; and everyone (except me) in Belize and Central America for Christmas. I'm the lost puppy searching for holiday turkey table scraps this autumn. New job. No vacation until baseball in Florida in March so I have to pass on the holiday gluttony.

Philosophy is not such a popular subject on FD but I can't help but become philosophical when I think of how these holidays/rituals define us. These are the things that keep us together. No bureaucracy can emulate or make substitutions for them.
