Old-school lightbulbs are soon to be no more at Sears Canada. The company has announced that they will stop selling incandescent and halogen lighting, phasing out the bulbs completely from stores by September 2011. (An official statement will be revealed on June 5 — UN World Environment Day.)
LED and CFL bulbs use up to 75% less energy than incandescents, the company says, and last up to 10 times longer.
Sears Canada also plans to make changes to the lighting in their stores, completing a switch to LED lighting by the end of August 2011. Sears anticipates the company will save $16-million annually in electricity costs; the company’s light bulb supplier, Sylvania, is making sure that all the old or unsold bulbs are recycled.
