Thanks for posting that, I have to upgrade my media player to hear it ... so I haven't been able to listen yet. Think I have to restart my computer to complete the download so will have to wait for tomorrow (many things on the go here as usual) ...

... now this is quite Christmas-sounding although the actual theme is otherwise, this being an organ piece from Handel, The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. Actually, he could have called this anything, it sounds great.

Interesting to hear how this was done in 1939 by the legendary Ezio Pinza. Not sure if this demonstrates the advances in recording more than the changes in style of presentation, but it makes one wonder, how did it sound when Mozart's opera company first performed it?

Breaking away from the Christmas theme (or the pre-Christmas, Advent theme if you're with Opus Dei) I want to wish Ludwig van Beethoven a happy 240th birthday.

I recognized this date because it happens to be my mother's birthday too. She must have drawn attention to this fact around the time we had our piano delivered and I set out on the long and rocky road to full appreciation and partial (very partial, truth be known) mastery of Beethoven, Mozart and Bach mainly but a number of other classical composers. While she would be turning 93 today, sadly she passed away many of those years ago.

Reviewing those numbers makes yours truly feel a bit historical too, when you consider that your mother was born not long into the second half of time elapsed since Beethoven was at his peak, well, it means nothing I suppose.

Ha ha, I thought the second movement was just on the quiet side, turns out that you have to load it, I was actually listening to my dishwasher in the next room.
