Man, what a laugh. I always wondered how McCarthyism happened, and this thread certainly demonstrates its possibility.
Many here are like the McCarthyites (the worse being Mr. Vaughan)looking for traces of "unCanadian" activities in the stories, works and articles written by Alex Trudeau.
"He's a Trudeau.. he MUST be a pinko"
"He's that Pinko Trudeau's son.... he MUST be biased against Americans"
"Ok, so there is no bias people in THAT story.. but c'mon he's a PINKO"
Like many people condemned during the Red Scare, by mere association, Alex Trudeau is also condemned.
C'mon people. Reasoned debate and logic is one thing. Slander and character assassination are another. _________________ If A equals success, then the formula is A = X + Y + Z. X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut. -- Albert Einstein |

Yeah.
I'll grant that the style of the accusations against Sacha Trudeau are similar...but I would differ on the substance...
In the fifties...McCarthy really was hot on the trail of communist infiltration...and a lot of the mythology about him was a diversionary tactic by the left in the U.S. (you might read Ann Coulter's take on this)
The thing about Sacha is that he is an independent young man...yes, belonging to privilege...well, so what...it's a FREE country...you're allowed to be born to privilege...and he hasn't sought any political spotlight or agenda...in fact, his views are rather benign compared to some...
and I hate it when the Canadian Army reserve is put down...damn it...most of our soldiers in WWII were with reserve units...it's not Sacha's fault he wasn't deployed...he served and that's good enough for me...and better than most young Canadian men...
so, he's moved on and using his privilege to pursue a career in documentary filmaking...good for him...
His father was what he was and the devastating result on our country is without doubt...and the mythology surrounding him almost sickening...but Sacha hasn't bought into any of that...and Margaret, poor troubled soul, has nothing to do with PET's political assault on our country...I don't care if she sang for Castro...she was all caught up in the Trudeau web for heaven's sake...
Let's await the maturing of Sacha in his work and evaluate it on its merits not by his birth or the size of his bank account... _________________ WitchDoctor of the Shadowy GroupTM

Justin Trudeau seems to be the one with political ambitions, not Sacha. It first came up after his memorable eulogy for their father which was full of absolute praise for the former prime minister's political record. He was a smarmy master of ceremonies for Jean Chretien's televised farewell from the Liberal Party convention last month. All he has to do is say he's interested in succeeding Paul Martin as Liberal leader and he'd be on his way. He could galvanize all those in the party who think Paul Martin is just in bed with corporate Canada and too far to the Right into a winning campaign. _________________ Alberta is prosperous, the population is growing and the government is debt-free. I don't think he'd want to be PM at 30 lol. That's the worst possible thing that could happen to a 30 year old.
The Right in Canada needs to groom Mario Dumont for 2010-2015. _________________ http://xkcd.com/675/ |

Justin Trudeau was born Dec. 25, 1971 which makes him 36 years old if he were to challenge Paul Martin's leadership in 2008. If he has serious aspirations though, he wuld run for a seat in the House in 2004. _________________ Alberta is prosperous, the population is growing and the government is debt-free.
