Harper government wimps out in free speech fight

<a href=http://www.noapologies.ca/2008/02/news-for-feb-12-08.html>"NoApologies.ca </a>has obtained a copy of a document circulated to all Conservative MP's from Justice Minister Rob Nicholson's office late last week.

"The document is entitled <a href=http://www.noapologies.ca/CHRC%20Talking%20Points.doc>'Talking points re: CHRA & CHRC', </a> and it basically instructs MP's to keep a very low profile on any discussion surrounding Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

(...)

"The document also instructs MP's to essentially shift the focus away from the Section 13 discussion by talking about the government's ongoing efforts to repeal Section 67 of the Act. That section essentially exempts First Nations from any and all provisions or enforcement of the Act in cases where discrimination happens on native land."

Read the whole thing.

You can send your polite concerns directly to the Prime Minister's Office by clicking on the banner below.

You might want to ask why the Harper government is more committed to <a href=http://www.cjob.com/news/index.aspx?src=loc&mc=local&rem=85395>building a $100 million Museum for Human Rights </a>than to ensuring real, live freedom of speech in the here and now.

The gagging squad in the PMO is at it again. :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged: :gagged:

The old Reformers are slinking away into retirement with barely a whimper and all that remains are a bunch of trained seals. :barf:

Bump!

So, do we all write to Nicholson's office, or should we phone?

God forbid we should hear an opinion about anything from any CPC MP.

The only thing heard here from Bob Mills in over a year was the announcement that he isn't running again. The Reform days seem ages ago and no one appears more embarrassed about it than Bob.

Then you'd better not sign up to be a candidate for the CPC. Independent thinkers need not apply. :P

The Ballad of Brave Sir Harper

Bravely bold Sir Harper rode forth from Calg'ry
He was not afraid to fight - the CHRC!
He was not at all afraid to be slurred in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Harper!

Brave Sir Harper ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When Keith Martin reared his head,
Steve bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Harper turned about
And sold conservative principles out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Harper!

He is packing it in and packing it up
And sneaking away and buggering up
And chickening out and pissing off home,
Yes, bravely he is throwing in the sponge...

I am sending an email to Harper. The response I get will determine my continued support of the CPC. Depending on the response, I may resign from the EDA BoD and the Party.

Leftists rarely stop mewling about 'Canadian values' and they constantly try to tell the rest of us what those values are. Well, freedom is a genuine Canadian value. It is the bedrock of all that we are and the basis of our prosperity.

Our most fundamental values are now under direct attack. The CPC will never get a more significant issue to deal with than this one.

You are for freedom of speech or you are for state censorship. There is no middle ground. Every parliamentarian will eventually have to take a stand on this issue and their positions will be clearly recorded for history, as they should be.

It's make-or-break time.

All this non-discussion in the house and at the same time we find that they have moved a step closer to funding The Human Rights Museum

<a href=http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/story/4123574p-4718043c.html>Rights museum gets Ottawa's nod</a>

It should rightfully be renamed the Selective Human Rights Musem.

I love how their talking points tell them to try to distract us by saying they are working to repeal Section 67... a move that would EXPAND CHRC powers, not reduce them.

It is insulting that they think we are such idiots!

CPC talking point:

"My Canada includes First Nations."

My response:

That's mighty white of you, but my Canada also includes freedom of speech, freedom of thought and freedom of expression. Does yours?
