Human Rights attack on Free Dominion
It has been brought to our attention that it is becoming difficult to follow new developments on the original thread due to its length. Several members have suggested we start a locked thread for updates on this battle and this seems to be a good solution.
We will add to this timeline as often as we gain new information.
Timeline
July 18, 2007
- 6:00pm Picked up mail and found a letter from the Canadian Human Rights Commission dated July 16, 2007. This letter informed us Connie and Free Dominion were named in human rights complaint filed by a Ms.Gentes. There were no other details. The letter said Connie had until July 18, 2007 to reply in full to this complaint.
- 6:30pm Connie did a tracking search of the letter and learned it had been mailed from Ottawa the afternoon of July 17, 2007, about 30 hours before it got into our hands.
- 9:30pm We notified the public of this action against Free Dominion by starting a thread in the forum.
- 10:00pm We contact Free Dominion’s lawyer.
July 19, 2007
- 9:00am Connie starts calling the CHRC. After a couple of hours she finally gets a live person who gives her another number to call. Eventually she makes real time contact with John Chamberlain. Mr. Chamberlain tells Connie the first name of Ms. Gentes is Mary Lynn, but we are still uncertain of the spelling. He declines to give Connie any further information about the actual charge or accusation.
- 2:00pm Connie gives contact information to the CHRC for Free Dominion’s lawyer to receive a copy of the complaint.
This is where we stand at the moment. We should have an update tonight or tomorrow and it will appear first on this thread. It would be handy if someone reproduces updates we post here on the discussion thread, that way the discussion and strategizing can continue there.
Thank you to all for your support. It is easy for us to have courage with an army of principled conservatives at our backs. _________________ "If it takes force to impose your ideas on your fellow man, there is something wrong with your ideas. July 20, 2007
- 8:00am Free Dominion's lawyer receives faxed copy of complaint from Canadian Human Rights Commission.
- 4:00pm We get home from school and get copy of complaint ourselves.
The complainant is an infidel named Marie-Lines Gentes. She has complained that she was discriminated against because Bill Whatcott posted some things she didn't like about Muslims at Free Dominion. This woman appears to be on a personal vendetta against Mr. Whatcott and this bogus complaint is merely collateral damage from her point of view. She is not a Muslim, herself, and she completely fails to explain how Mr. Whatcott's postings discriminate against her, or have anything to do with her at all.
The following are the offending posts, attributed by her to Bill Whatcott:
03/09/06 "To see the original hitting Edmonton mailboxes tonight. (warning disturbing but necessary photo) http://takebackcanada.com/whatcott.html "
04/24/06 "I can't figure out why the homosexuals I ran into are on the side of the Muslims. After all, Muslims who practice Sharia law tend to advocate beheading homosexuals."
03/09/06 "I defy Islamic censorship and speak about what I believe is the truth about violent Islamism and its threat to religious liberty in Canada."
Gentes also claims she was discriminated against due to the appearance of the following posts which she claims appeared at Free Dominion.
"How many of us pay nothing but lip service to the Muslim threat here in Canada?"
"Probably everyone want to jail a Muslim."
"I have to ask why we are importing them here?"
"Islamic fundamentalism and its threat to Canada's religious and civil liberties."
