We Are All Programmed not to think

By

James Bredin

We are all, each one of us, programmed to a certain degree,
By the owners of the newspapers and the programs on TV,
We fall in line and nod our heads because of what we are told,
We’re like a flock of sheep being led down the road to be sold.

Sorry, I aroused you from that sleepy self-righteous feeling,
There’s not much you can do to these elitists wheeling and dealing,
Because those in control have their own covert agenda,
Be good and obey now – no callbacks or binding referenda.

I'm in the process of reading the Bible from front to back, like any other book partly to deprogram myself from the influence of liberal TV and newspapers. I recommend everyone try it whether or not you believe in God.

Alberta is prosperous, the population is growing and the government is debt-free. I have no doubt that Liberals, NDPers, Red Tories, Kyoto Treaty bureaucrats, and other provinces will try to make Alberta into Canada's ATM machine.

Same here, I started in April of 2001, with Eccleasties (sp?) reading one chapter each night, (many of which I, unfortunately missed). Just before Christmas, I finished Revalations and am currently in Exodus. Moses is just about to go to Pharoah and demand that he "let my people go".

I'm reading the English Standard Version, which is quite new (published in 2001) although not very different than the New International Version and Revised Version. My goal is to read the ESV front to back and then read the King James Version front to back. I only began a couple of days ago so I'm at the part in Genesis when Isaac met Rebekah.

My church uses the New International Version (NIV), but I find that reading the authorized King James is a much more profound experience. In my late highschool/early university years, I even gave up praying in vernacular langage and since, have made my prayers in Olde English (which some people call the "Thees" and "Thous".) I find that using such language gives me a greater understanding of and reverence towards God.

In the past I've found the KJV's archaic language more distracting rather than profound. But that doesn't diminish my respect for its impact and my interest in some day reading it from front to back. In 1611 when it was first released, "Thees and Thous" actually was the English vernacular. For 350 years it was unquestionably the most influential English translation. Thousands of Protestant missionaries distributed millions of KJV Bibles for centuries all over the globe: "programming" many willing minds!

Any classic education will put you head and sholders over the shallow new-age twits that populate political theaters these days.
Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive; those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. - C.S. Lewis, In Freedom .
