Jesus of Nazareth becomes Jesus of Hollywood

Special to National Post Jun 27, 2012 – 10:06 AM ET

From Real Clear Religion
Who says Hollywood doesn’t get religion?

There’s a new Jesus movie in the works right now — a pet project of Showgirls director, Paul Verhoeven. This one even has an exciting new twist: Jesus is the product of a rape. It’s free of agnosticism too — in this telling, his Lordship is certainly ethical, and certainly not divine.

He’s the Jesus of the Jesus Seminar, with an edgier back-story.

For rubes outside the loop, this is a bold thing to attempt in Hollywood — up there, for example, with raising questions about the founder of Islam.

Wait, sorry, I was thinking of a different Dutch filmmaker, savagely murdered for that brand of insouciance. Upon review, this new project looks to involve all the risk of skydiving from the edge of a dime, but with a better chance of copping a Palm at Cannes..................http://life.nationalpost.com/2012/06/27 ... hollywood/

NEW MOVIE: JESUS IS PRODUCT OF MARY BEING RAPED
'Blasphemous' film to discount Bible miracles
Published: 2 hours ago
by JOE KOVACS

Paul Verhoeven, who directed previous hits including “Robocop,” “Total Recall” and “Basic Instinct,” is basing the movie on his 2008 book, “Jesus of Nazareth.”

A new Hollywood film in the works that some are already calling blasphemous will portray Jesus as the product of His mother Mary being raped by a Roman soldier, and show that miracles mentioned in the New Testament were not real.
According to Deadline.com, Verhoeven’s take on the life of Jesus discounts all the miracles mentioned in Scripture, including the virgin birth and the resurrection, as Verhoeven doesn’t believe any of them actually took place.

Perhaps the most controversial of Verhoeven’s notions is that “Jesus might have been the product of his mother being raped by a Roman soldier, which Verhoeven said was commonplace at the time, and that Jesus was a radical prophet who performed exorcisms and was convinced he would find the kingdom of heaven on earth, and did not know he would be sentenced to die on the cross by Pontius Pilate,” Deadline reported.

“He is treading on territory that Christians universally would label as blasphemous,” says Mike Fleming of Deadline. “The film seems to have landed in the appropriate place, as a gritty and controversial independent film.”

WND reader Dale Ulmer is among those already outraged, saying, “Anyone involved in the production of this film will face the wrath of God. I will NOT watch this film and I would personally like to write to these people and tell them they are treading in waters with no life preserver unless they cancel this film because God’s judgment will be harsh if they choose to mock him. They have no real proof of what they are suggesting, however the Bible has never failed in its record of historical events. Archaeologists and scientists are discovering proof of biblical accounts, just as it was written.”

In a previous interview with Fleming, Verhoeven spoke of Jesus in these terms:

“If you look at the man, it’s clear you have a person who was completely innovative in the field of ethics. My own passion for Jesus came when I started to realize that. It’s not about miracles, it’s about a new set of ethics, an openness towards the world, which was anathema in a Roman-dominated world. I believe he was crucified because they felt that politically, he was a dangerous person whose following was getting bigger and bigger. Jesus’ ideals are about the utopia of human behavior, about how we should treat each other, how we should step into the shoes of our enemy.”

Muse Productions will reportedly be producing the new film, and Roger Avary, who won an Oscar for co-writing 1994′s “Pulp Fiction,” is on board to adapt the book into a screenplay.

South African Prophet meets Jesus in the Heavenly City of Sharomy; Returns to Earth with Map of Heaven

Posted by Samuel K. Obour

A MANDENI, KwaZulu-Natal, resident is drawing huge crowds to his home after claiming that he has been to heaven four times and has drawn a map of it on a wall.

The self-proclaimed prophet, 64-year-old Sibusiso Mthembu, says there are 11 heavens, each of which he has visited, with his first heavenly journey having taken place in December 1998.

Since the news spread that there was a map of heaven, locals have been flocking to Mthembu’s house to see it.

A visitor who had known Mthembu for a long time said: “I don’t know whether to believe this or not. I think it’s about one’s religion or belief. Some people are convinced that it’s a true map, while others are not.”

Another laughed when Sowetan asked about the map.

Mthembu claims his other three journeys took place in 2004, 2006 and the last was in 2008. On his return, he drew a map of heaven and its residents.

He claimed that on December 22 1993, a white man arrived at his home and told him that he was needed in heaven.

“An angel, whom I later realised was Gabriel, who was in his early 20s, appeared at my house and led me by the hand to the Mandeni River where he baptised me and he returned to heaven,” Mthembu claimed.

Mthembu said the same angel arrived in 1998 and this time took him along to heaven.

“I was then taken to the fifth heaven, called Crista, where I met Jesus in a city called Sharomy.

“There was also Silvertus-devil’s angel there,” claimed Mthembu.

Mthembu said though there were 11 heavens, the main one was Salem, where God’s temple was.

“Jesus is white and God is greyish in complexion. God is in his youth.” He claims he met God during his second journey in 2004.

“I met him at Jadalem, a planet mostly covered in water and ice.” During his other journeys, Mthembu claims to have seen Moses, Abel and others.

“I heard their conversations, experienced the singing and the smell. “I explored the Marshnode City – the first place that people go to when they die and their spirits get reincarnated, Wespole City and also saw Jesus, Moses, Eliya, a prophet – not Elijah, and Abel,” he claimed.

Mthembu says his journey has raised questions about his faith in God and the truth of life.

“All I can say is that I believe in the God of the universe and that no one can figure out the great truth of life until we finally unite in eternity at death,” he said.

Mthembu said those people who predicted the end of the world in May last year were correct.

“Actually, what was happening on that day is that there was a big meeting in heaven, called Il-Banta to discuss the biggest war to fight Satanism,” he said.

“The prophet says that God’s single day is equivalent to 891 years, so May 23 was the beginning of the count-down to the end of the world.”

He said he would like to see the map being printed for the whole world to see.

“People must come and see the map as one day someone from Japan or China or Britain will design a map of heaven and the people of South Africa will have forgotten that the map was originally made in South Africa.”

Apart from the map of heaven, Mthembu has written several books documenting his heavenly experience.

If this was a story about somebody from Mecca every theatre that showed the film would be burnt to the ground.

These guys know they have no concern because the Christian knows that he is in this world but no of it!
Don't forget- in November write in Ross Perot.
