I'm thinking....

Just not quite sure what I would do with my multi penny losing business if I DID get elected.

We have no candidate here however and I would be running against a longtime friend...Monte

A voucher system is the only effective way to break the teacher's union monopoly on education. It would have to be offered as a grant to every single parent, which could then be used to send your child to a private secular, private religious, or public secular school. Another way would be to simply permit every parent to deduct private education fees from their taxes. It's not a religious issue, it's a school choice issue. The US Supreme Court has decided that the government can offer a broad based voucher program, without private schools having to comply with public school curricula. Sadly, I suspect that our SCC would rule in the opposite direction and would ban any such vouchers in Canada.

If your suspicions are correct, then the tax deduction route would appear useful. There will be those claiming foul or unfairness as it takes disposable income to pay the fees up front, advancing a claim that that is a tax break available only to the haves, not the have-nots.

I was surprised to see this thread when I signed on just now.

Now I understand why my personal e-mail box is filed with so many negative comments from known conservative supporters and Tory's plan for education dollars. Many that indicated that I was a traitor for moving away from Tory a year ago, are now saying they cannot vote for him due soley for this election promise.

It does not matter if the person was considered an urban or a rural voter, they simply cannot stomach this one.

One person summed it up quite well:

Tory is trying to pander to the UN lovers and the Islamic apologists in one expensive promise.

I guarantee you that any promise would exempt Upper Canada College and Havergale private schools for the uppercrusts of Toronto.

Absolutely. There's one reality for the glitterati and another for the rest of us plebes.

This thread is another great example of the political elite in this country diverting individuals attention from real change towards advancing a False God called Conservatism. All PC party candidates are loyal to J Tory and J Tory and his advisers set policy for the party not members or MPP's, supporting PC candidates means supporting J Tory. Is one a good conservative if one votes FP even if they are Pro-choice? Diversionary politics at its finest whether intentional or not, J Tory must be smiling.

If the Ontario Alternative has candidates in place, they are, of course, a good option, too.

But, I haven't heard anything lately, so I was assuming you guys were aiming for the next election.

Wow, the FCP actually has a candidate in my riding of St. Paul's! This is a first...and he's probably the only social conservative who's even run in this riding either federally or provincially since the early 1980s, at least. Good news. :)

Hell must have frozen over. Carfix and I agree. Please Connie, provide voters in your riding with real choice.

Does anyone know of any other good candidates in Kingston? C'mon, Connie's not the only good one there.

The way the PCs are handling the campaign you won't have to get active to polish them off they seem to be doing a good job of it themselves.

The Liberals have been actively campaigning for 3 weeks now and all we get from the Tories is whining about them coming out of the gate first.

With this display of hustle I can say I've seen broken kitchen appliances with more will to become a government.
Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive; those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. - C.S. Lewis, In Freedom .

Monte McNaughton has been unofficially campaigning for months. He set up signs all over the place last weekend because we had our big car show in town.

He was there walking around shaking hands also.

In line with the "don't vote Tory" theme....

Here is the FCP candidate in Sault Ste. Marie:
