Ontario traditionally elects a party banner which is different from the one governing at the federal level. This means the election will go to the McGuinty Liberals and the only outcome in doubt is whether it will lead to a majority or minority government.

Yes, Ed. It is the secular cirriculum. The reason people choose private schools or homeschooling is so that they will have some degree of control over the cirriculum their children are taught. Attempting to force a single cirriculum on all of these schools defeats the whole purpose of private schooling.

And, I see horrible things on the horizon for homeschoolers if the government gets their meddling little hands on private schools.

I agree. Unless it is a voucher system.

What and give parents the right to decide? /sarcasm off

I don't support a voucher system partly because it would lead to public funding of religious schools. Catholics should fund Catholic schools. Muslims should fund Muslim schools. If the Muslim schools are breeding hate then there's no scandal about shutting them down if they haven't received a penny in public funding.

A voucher system is the only effective way to break the teacher's union monopoly on education. It would have to be offered as a grant to every single parent, which could then be used to send your child to a private secular, private religious, or public secular school. Another way would be to simply permit every parent to deduct private education fees from their taxes. It's not a religious issue, it's a school choice issue. The US Supreme Court has decided that the government can offer a broad based voucher program, without private schools having to comply with public school curricula. Sadly, I suspect that our SCC would rule in the opposite direction and would ban any such vouchers in Canada.

They're wanting to, but I know at least in Ottawa they are still working on finding some.

Y'aren't, like, busy in October or anything, are you Connie? :D

Oops, sorry. Deleted post on school funding. I'll save it for another thread.

My contact in Leeds-Grenville tells me there will be a candidate...we don't know who yet, but if he doesn't find someone, he will stand.

The Family Coalition Party is still looking for candidates.

The list is here:

http://www.familycoalitionparty.com/ctable.htm

If you would like to be a candidate, please PM me. You need to be 18, a Canadian Citizen, have lived in Ontario for 6 months and have a pro-life, pro-marriage worldview.

The degree of campaigning is entirely up to you. You will have to sign up for a $10 membership if you are not already a member. You will sign 3 more forms, two for the party, one for Elections Ontario. Then between September 10th to 18th, you will find 25-40 signatures for nomination papers and give $200 to the returning officer, which the Party will reimburse (it can be fundraised and paid in cash-- there are practically no rules about who can pay for the deposit).

Myself, I am a candidate, and I plan to campaign on the internet, mostly.

If you're interested, please let me know. I need a candidate to run against Dalton McGuinty. Anyone want to sign up? :brows: :brows: :brows:

You don't have to live in the riding. Just lend your name. :D

We're in Kingston and the Islands, Suzanne. Any information on this riding?

Oh sorry, Connie, I keep thinking you live in Ganonoque. Nothing yet on Kingston. Too bad-- lots of good conservatives there (as you know).
