Globe & Mail: Right-wing Tories gear up for convention

“We don't need to make these women and their lives any more emotionally upsetting,” said Ms. Luton.

If something is wrong, it is not justifiable simply because the person would prefer it that way to avoid emotional stress, or for any other selfish reason. What a ridiculous argument.

Keep giving me advice, Muddy. I appreciate all I can get. :) BTW, are you going to be well enough to come to the convention? I sure hope so!

I will be there. I had to make a decision last night to either go or let an alternate take my place. I figure if I get enough sympathy by looking fragile and in pain I can sucker FD members into buying me beer all night. :brows:

Well I certainly hope that Connie is the spokesperson for this issue and I too worry about other quotes or interpretations of what others who are not as bright as Connie will say.

Connie it is your responsibility to ensure certain people let you do the talking for them. Please!

You're being gracious as always Connie. A typo? Or an attempt to portray you as semi-literate? I never trust the media. 8)

Right-wing Tories gear up for convention

When was the last time you saw a headline that said "Left-wing Liberals"?
"Listen to me very carefully, my community is the Canadian community; I am not the ambassador of some country to Canada; I am an MP representing Canadians and my primary interest is Canada''s welfare. I am not in politics to represent some overseas group or government. Yes, I am a Muslim, but I cannot be held hostage by self-appointed community leaders who have their own hidden agendas."

Very good quotes, Connie. You're becoming an unofficial conservative spokesperson and doing a good job. I think Connie should sub for Geoff Norquay on Don Newman's show next week.

Bravo, Connie.

It will be an honour to meet you and yours at the convention. May I suggest that at any interview, you have in your pocket a clear graphic of just what's involved in a Partial Birth Abortion? It sometimes helps focus the attention of a reporter with his/her own agenda. Also, have an ally nearby that can tape the entire interview.... for accuracy. That also helps focus the reporter.

Excellent!!

I notice alot of people like to argue from the extremes. It's really just fear mongering. There would be an incredibly expensive, lengthy process to criminalize all abortion, and these people know it quite well.

Another one we had better be prepared for is, "Are you really going to throw these poor women in jail?"

We don't enforce every law we have now with automatic jail. The law is an instructor, forming public opinion, and for me, hopefully eventually this one leads toward people understanding that PBA is really just infanticide.
This gives us an opportunity to address this in public in a rational way.

Connie, I salute you and ES and all those who worked so hard to make this a reality.

P-93, the motion that forbids a Conservative government from supporting any legislation to regulate abortion, is ridiculous. What if the Courts tells the government to do it, like the Courts are telling the government to support gay marriage? What if some day they actually see the fact that something “really really really” needs to be done? What if a Conservative private member brings forward abortion legislation, will the government automatically vote against it? What if for some reason there needs to be some sort regulation without limiting access to it? Etc... Etc... Etc... This is an unreasonable tying of the government’s hands.

As well, this motion says “no restrictions” on abortion, but it does NOT say “no liberalization” of abortion.
