Here's why this ad (subliminal message or no subliminal message) is such a flop.
Lets start wtih the "aircraft carriers". This little quip simply reminds voters how shoddy the military has been treated. They need new equipment period. The one symbol of US military that is most instantly recognized is the aircraft carrier. It symbolizes the ability to back up your foreign policy with some clout. I've had some previous military experience and I can tell you a carrier appearring over the horizon is an awsome sight to behold, and something that scares the bejesus out of your adversaries. But I digress, all this vision does is remind voters of what our military once was, a proud symbol of an independant nation. What we have now is a military that is used to pump up the international profile of the PM by sending them willy nilly on any and every UN boyscout mission without nary a thought about preparedness. Message delivered, our military is underfunded.
A womans right to choose???
The words may say be afraid be very afraid. The visual again reminds voters of what you encounter at your local emergency room. Long lineups and an inability to get to a doctor. Now why is there a crisis in health care, was it planned this way? No, the crisis exists because of Martins cuts. Message delivered, Martin cut health funding.
The gun pointed at viewers??? Been discussed and nobody likes being threatened...end of story there.
The smoke stacks?
Visual image reminds me of steel mills, working class, NDP. Misses the intended point. Message delivered, liberals think industry is dirty.
Like I've said, the "genius" that thought up this one should be brushing up their resume...preferably in another line of work.
