Jean is John in French.

There is nothing individual Quebec Conservatives like Jean and me can do about that. There is no provincial Conservative party in Quebec. No provincial party in Quebec is gonna reduce the size of the state and cut in social programs. I would of course prefer we do not get that $6B, but socialists control us totally and there is nothing I can do about it.

Can you pay your bills on your own though?

Quebecers are overtaxed and already pay plenty of bills.

Once again, individual Quebec Conservatives like Jean and me are not responsible of this. I've spent the last 30 days fighting the Bloc 12 hours a day in the Repentigny by-election. Instead of blaming Quebec Conservatives like Jean for the successes of the Bloc, you should congratulate them for fighting it.

isn't ADQ the Conservative equilvalance??

The ADQ is not a Conservative party. Conservatism in Canada is a federalist ideology, and the ADQ is not federalist. Also, while the ADQ might bring interesting right-wing ideas, I'm not sure if I really trust this party. According to some ADQ people I know, this party has been hijacked by socialists and separatists who left the Parti Quebecois. In December 2002, the ADQ was leading the polls for the provincial election of April 2003. Then, they began making compromises on their ideas and finished distant third because of this.

I think the party could change if it changed its leader. But in Quebec, the ADQ is Mario Dumont, and Mario Dumont is the ADQ. Mario Dumont is a good person, but he lacks the moral character and charisma to implement his ideas. During the last provincial elections, the unions totally destroyed him, and he barely fought back.

Lately, I've been wondering about which provincial party I will support in the next provincial elections, and I'm still not sure. The ADQ becomes attracting one day, then it disappoints me. Charest is not much better, but at least he can stop the PQ. My decision has not been taken yet.
