Quebeckers don't care about French outside Quebec. Why now?

Yes, the real cost - translators of print material who probably never even made Vancouver, paying Francophones from QC to attend/offer services in French while showing them as volunteers, the hardware/software for the Francophone broadcasting along with the technical people, paying francophone broadcasters/commentators, funding the operation of QC House, etc, etc.

VANOC is not subject to the Auditor Generals of BC or Canada. They have stopped taking minutes at VANOC meetings because some of the members belong to organizations who are subject to Freedom of Information. VANOC has said it will produce a report, but there isn't anyone in Canada who can tell them what to put in that report or who can ensure it contains all the facts regarding funding and expenses. The IOC is seen as a international non-profit and isn't subject to audits in any country... even the country where they are headquartered.

PORK BARRELLING IN QUEBEC

Postby centrestage » 02/ 17/ 10 7:28 pm

What is it with federal governments buying votes in the Quebec Nation :x

Now its the Conservatives turn, who in spite of running a huge deficit, can find $1.6 million of our taxdollars to groom Quebec's snowmobile trails but not in the ROC. :shake:

The Conservatives are still in 3rd place in Quebec in the latest polls behind the BQ and the Liberals.

Doesn't look like Quebec is very grateful.

This just means the CPC will come running with a fat cheque soon, with an apology letter attached.

<a href=http://www.ctvolympics.ca/news-centre/newsid=47481.html>Opening ceremony reignites bilingualism debate</a>

<snip>
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff told anyone who would listen that there wasn't enough French, culminating in an open letter on Friday saying of the Opening Ceremony: "It is important to note that the limited amount of French was noticed from coast to coast. The issue doesn't come down to criticizing the Olympic organizing committee, but rather ensuring that this error is rectified."

Nobody cares but, just like proroguing parliament and H1N1, the media has decided to make it a story.

I'm sure Michael Ignatieff gives a flying rat's ass about French. :roll: He's just patronizing Quebec... but it's always worked for anyone else who did it.
