NHL 2006 Playoff Predictions

A team playing on a hockey rink will win the Stanley Cup. The team will be comprised of a majority of players from a country that flies the Maple Leaf, but not one player will be wearing a Maple Leaf when they win. However, a player will be wearing skates when they score the winning goal. The game will be decided in the summer, even though it's a winter sport.

What's the prize for the correct prediction?

While your statement will inevitably be accurate, it is as general as a politician saying that they believe only in "good things" as compared to "bad things." :D

Uh, you mean like last Saturday?

Too bad, too, because I was really looking forward to another showdown with your Sens.

We were just getting it together, too.

Good thing Eugene Melnyk came along, otherwise, your team would now be gone, just like the Renegades.

Great sportstown, ol' Ottawa is.

Better luck next game, Bolts! :hurray:

So it is Ottawa, Nashville, Detroit and Calgary each leading so far...

Wolski already has 3 points in the first game - and it is not over yet... :D

I'm in a small pool at work, so selecting Wolski was never considered...

...I did take Tanguay with one of my last picks.

Colorado up 5 to 2, and your boy has a goal and a pair of assists, meanwhile Tanguay has been held off the scoresheet. :(

Good thing I have Elias, Gionta, Rafalski, and Langenbrunner to make up for it. :)

Good call on Wolski, Psycho. Hopefully, you'll have some more tips for us in September when the regular season starts. ;)

I always have good picks before the season starts - they are all great. It's 1/2 way through the season when my picks look really bad...

Last playoffs I found Svatos; this year it is Wolski. I'm in 5 pools so I always do my research.

And I'm kicking butt on the Project Alberta site - after one game, I hold a commanding lead. However, for some strange reason they want the whole playoffs completed before they decide who won...

They sure didn't have it tonight, did they?

Too bad.

If they don't have it together for game two, it'll be a short series.

BTW, did anybody watch the Sabres/Flyers game?

Esche was fantastic for Philly, but how about that hit by Campbell on Umberger? Wow!

I thought it was clean, too.

Looks like Jagr is out for the Pens, but that will probably be a short series anyway.

And yes, how about that Elias today?

So, what do you predict for tomorrow, guys?

Yep, he sure got his bell rung. It was a great clean open-ice hit, but oh so painful to see. I haven't seen a clean hit like that since Lanny checked a guy so hard into the boards that they needed to be re-pinned. And I disagreed with them showing it on the JumboTron and having the fans cheer.... Umberger could've been really gibbled.

On a related note, in the Flames/Ducks game last night, did anybody see the fan from about 5 rows up launch himself into the glass while a Duck was pinned against it? That was the Panasonic play of the game for me. The poor Duck must have been "what the F#$%?"

Apparently, they're not supposed to do that.

Hitchcock didn't appreciate it, and it certainly wasn't hard to read his lips.

http://www.nhl.com/scores/recaps/121_3_recap.html

The Hurricanes finished 0-for-5 on the power play and clearly missed Erik Cole and fellow left wing Ray Whitney, both of whom sat out with injuries. Cole missed the final 22 games with a fractured vertebra - Carolina won only 10 of those - and Whitney didn't dress for the final six with a lower-body ailment.

Each are valuable on the man-advantage, and their absence was glaring for this one. :D

Carolina is missing 2 of their top 6 players. :-k

And yes, twas a great hit on Umberger. Reminded me of some guy who had Owan Nolan lined up head on (at full speed) as Nolan was accepting a "suicide pass". At the last second Nolan looked up, raised his elbow and knocked the other guy out cold... :ouch:

Damn straight! We Flames fans don't sit back and let all of our players do the hitting. When you play at the 'Dome, even the crowd can get ya! :hurray:
