It's a shame. :( Oh well, what can you do?

So is this hockey nonsense over? Can we all get back to real things that really matter?

More TV masturbation. All these spectator sports are a waste of time. Time better spent on hobbies, family, house-hold repairs, gardening, learning new things - anything but time wasting sports glorification.

How can you go from winning 4-0 to absolutely doing nothing for two periods? Edmonton played great in game six, but tonight it looked like they were all skating in mud with their skateguards on. If it was a good game okay, but it looked like they weren't even trying at times. Fernando Pisani was the only Oiler who seemed not to be on Tylenol 3's. The team had the flu in an earlier series, so that excuse is gone. Something is just not right about the way they lost this game.
I'm not buying this one at all. :x :x :x

I hope that oily snake Gary Bettman is happy now that another southern fried US team has won the cup. I have believed from the start that the league has a secret mandate to spread the cup around to all the expansion franchises. The goal is to boost hockey's popularity down there. Next up, Columbus, Nashville, or Anaheim? Maybe Atlanta.

I resent how the US has wrestled away our game and cheapened it to the point where some folks around here actually think world cup soccer is more exciting. Geez, it takes nearly ninety minutes for someone to shoot one ball into a net as big as a four car garage.
:clueless:

Whatever.

I just can't fathom a team coming as far as the Oilers did this year, only to mail it in in game seven. ](*,) It just doesn't make any sense.

Well done, 'Canes!

You played a decent game tonight!

In spite of the dirty hitting tactics by the Oilers throughout the series, you guys managed to come through when it really mattered.

Congratulations!

But World Cup soccer IS my hobby! I don't have a garden or a yard or balcony and anyway I'm allergic to flowers; my family live 2,000 miles from here, I live in a matchbox apartment -- and I have learned a lot in watching this year's World Cup! :D

May I inquire why some people consider other peoples' hobbies and interests "a waste of time" while urging us to take up THEIR hobbies and interests, which they claim are NOT wastes of time?

Are these the same people who scream SPRAWL at other peoples' desire for a house with a yard, and CONGESTION at other peoples' automobiles, and MURDER at their eating and drinking habits?

Is this not another manifestation of the Universal Nanny, whose fevered dream is to roam the country shouting NO NO! and slapping things out of peoples' hands?

P.S. I watched the last 12 minutes of the hockey game, having been involved with someone scotchgarding my couch and trying to keep the cat from being scotchgarded too, watching Spain play Tunisia and learning that the next Pele is called Fernando Torres, and answering the latest sarcastic letter from a family member who dismissed her lack of concern about our terrorists by saying "Well Toronto is a big city and I just figured it wasn't anywhere near you."

I am now willing to cast caution to the winds, and make my predictions for the 2006 Stanley Cup.

I predict the Carolina Hurricanes will best the Edmonton Oilers in a 7 game series.

In fact, I am willing to place a substantial wager on that, with any FD member who would care to take me up on that.
