Here is a list of political figures up for election and their stance for the registry or against it...easy to see who the idiots are, if they support people I see as liars, fascists and gun banners, it would be best to not vote for them for any government position.

-------------------------------------------------------

The following is for OLA members in the Region of Waterloo. Information on this subject will hopefully be complete by the end of this week.

On September 15th, 2010, Waterloo Regional Council voted in favour of supporting a motion put forward by the Crime Prevention Committee, which was a motion to support the Canadian Federal Long Gun Registry. In doing so, Waterloo Regional Council has made a federal matter a municipal matter for the upcoming municipal elections on October 25th, 2010. Law-abiding firearms owners Region-wide have taken note of Council's decision and will be voting accordingly in the upcoming elections. For information purposes, here is the current knowledge-base regarding the Regional Council's candidates' opinions on Regional Council Supporting the Canadian Federal Long Gun Registry.

Candidates for Regional Chair

Ken Seiling

Voted: In favour of motion to support registry.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: In favour.

"As a member of the Regional Police Services Board, I take seriously the advice of our Chief and our Service about the importance of the Registry to our police service."

Robert F. Milligan

Voted: Presently not Council member.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: Unknown.

Candidates for Regional Council - Kitchener (4 Seats)

Tom Galloway

Voted: In favour of motion to support registry.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: Undefined.

Councillor Galloway explained that his preference would have been Regional Council not discussing the topic of supporting the Canadian Long Gun Registry, however, he knew that other councillors were going to bring it forward. Councillor Galloway stated that due to his position on the Crime Prevention Committee, which brought the motion forward and his position on the Police Services Board that he felt obligated to vote in favour of the motion presented. Councillor Galloway advised that no Regional Councillor is able to abstain from a vote.

Jean Haalboom

Voted: In favour of motion to support registry.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: In favour.

Barbara da Silva

Voted: Presently not Council member.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: Not in favour.

"I have never been in favour of this registry. I don't see the need for it, as all of my friends who own guns - either for hunting or for competitions - are responsible owners. I was introduced to rifles as an Air Cadet in Kitchener (822) and enjoyed learning and participating in target shooting. I have not participated in years but stand firmly on the idea that rurally it is a tool of the trade. Hand guns are more likely to be an issue than long guns. It has been a huge waste of money and has not dealt with illegal gun to any degree. I would want it scrapped and ask that law enforcement concentrate on the illegal guns crossing our border not harassing law abiding citizens."

Jason Hammond

Voted: Presently not Council member.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: In favour.

Leszek Jankowski

Voted: Presently not Council member.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: In favour.

"I believe any legislation intended to protect citizens of our community deserve our full support."

Geoff Lorentz

Voted: Presently not Council member.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: Not in favour.

"I believe too many politicians blur the lines of responsibility. I believe that this is a federal issue and should be addressed in that forum. I would have stated that and most likely abstained from voting. Regional Council has enough on their plates with out having to dabble in Federal politics. I understand what their intentions were but I do not believe they advanced the cause one bit. I am a strong supporter of law and order as I am sure you are as well, but I also believe people can and will be responsible for their actions. My father was born in St. Clements and I spent many a day hunting and fishing with him. He was a responsible hunter and taught me a lot. In short local politicians should stay out of Federal matters."

Kristen Porritt

Voted: Presently not Council member

Stance on Council Support for Registry: Not in favour.

“I’m not in favour of Regional Council discussing or carrying a motion - I believe that support of the Canadian Federal Long Gun Registry takes time, attention and resources away from the real source of crime.”

Derek Satnik

Voted: Presently not Council member.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: Not in favour

"I think much of this discussion is a waste of time, and I have no intention of supporting any Municipal efforts to confuse issues that are beyond our scope. The Long Gun Registry is not a matter for the Region to decide, and I will not be supporting any efforts to discuss the Long Gun Registry until the Federal Government chooses to make this a Municipal issue. It is simply not our place to rule on Federal issues."

Martin Schell

Voted: Presently not Council member.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: Not in favour.

"As a registered gun owner myself I definitely feel that the problem is not the people who legally own firearms. I am also a strong supporter of our local Police Service. Being ex-military I feel that firearms training and safety is important and we need some type of (licencing) just not the pile of B.S. currently in place. The hoops I had to jump thru and pile of paperwork was absolutely amazing when I inherited my uncles guns. As for the matter at hand I firmly believe this to be a Federal matter and not a municipal one ,it should not have been voted on."

Jim Wideman

Voted: In favour of motion to support registry.

Stance on Council Support for Registry: In favour.

"Regional Council should not have voted on this issue. Regardless of a person's stance on the issue, I believe that this is not an issue for the Region to address. There should have been consultation with the public if they wanted to take a stance. It was a "loaded" question, there is no easy answer when dealing with this type of issue. I support "Law Abiding" gun owners.Which are your members and their right to enjoy the shooting sports in Canada."

"I will agree that the legislation as written needs to be updated. As a former police officer I do not look at it as crime prevention and agree with you on this aspect. I do see it as a safety tool for those who on a day to day basis face the possibility of being confronted by an irate and mentally ill person with a gun. Most law enforcement people will agree with me on this and feel that the laws need to be changed to create a more effective and less costly program. I believe we should all strive for this."

"It seems clear to me that this is not an issue that should be subject to debate at the municipal council level, at either Regional or local level. It is a federal concern, and to create resolutions at other governmental levels only muddies the waters."
