Federal NDP poll numbers could translate into star candidates, leader says in exclusive interview

By PETER O’NEIL, edmontonjournal.com May 21, 2012
OTTAWA – Polls suggesting that the federal NDP are a contender to form government in 2015 will allow the party to recruit star candidates, including well-known figures from the business community, according to leader Thomas Mulcair.

Mulcair, whose leadership credentials were questioned last week after statements about the oilsands infuriated three western premiers, said he’s already been approached by “extraordinary” people interested in running for the party.

“They’re already coming to us. The names would surprise you,” Mulcair said in an exclusive interview in his Parliament Hill office.

“We’ve got extraordinary people who are talking to us now, people who share our values, share our goals, but who have never expressed the desire to go into politics.”........................http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/Fed ... story.html

How typically socialist of them!

They claim to be the party of the common Canadian yet they do not want their representatives to be from the ignorant unwashed, they want elitist "STAR" candidates!

Muclair is such a horses *ss! Keep talking Tommy boy, keep talking.

Late blooming bandwagon jumpers are going to be in for a shock when they lose half their seats in 2015.

Hodgson, you may the one in for a shock. Muclair is going to run on a rob the west to pay for goodies ticket, and he might just win. Seventy percent, give or take, of the Canadian electorate are lefties. Muclair just has to package that poison in the right way .....

Evil Oil Alberta has to pay for it's gigantic carbon footprint or we will all die!

Oddly enough, he is parroting what we have heard out of the Bloc in the last twenty years. It has sold in Quebec and can be sold in Toronto.

If that's the case, and I agree that it is quite realistic, it will lead to western separatism as a powerful force. Many people "out west" just don't want to go back to the old ways, one NEP was one too many. We would be far better off in our own country and let Ontario and Quebec figure out how to pay for their boondoggles on their own money.

Vancouver of course would be a problem, perhaps colonial status for them?

I think a western sovereignty concept would sweep most of the four western provinces, as well as the Yukon and NWT.

I've never been active in it myself because we have been moving towards greater equity in the past ten years, but I would support it the day after an NDP majority government was elected. The writing would be on the wall, and this time, it won't just be Alberta against the whole country. Things have changed. Mulcair, on the other hand, is like an old wine that has suddenly been opened, he hasn't changed, and he is from a 1970s far-left ideological background. He will continue to play well in regions where people want others to provide them with entitlements. And I fear that he will obliterate the Liberals since they had only that card left anyway. Some might say good riddance, but with the leftist vote split, we can avoid leftist government.

The orange crush is a flash in the pan.

Mulcair is an angry bearded idiot.

The NDP have already lost 2 MP's.

It's over.
