Is FD spying on us?

It used to be when I visited FD I got one cookie loaded. I would clear the cookie when I left FD and when I arrived at a new site I would have only the cookie from the new site on my machine.

Things have changed.

Now when I arrive at FD I have the FD cookie, naturally, and I also have the the cookies from dg.specificclick.net and scorecardresearch.com and this one has a sub menu cookie that is not defined but shows as a blank box in my cookie menu.

Now when I clear my cookies and go to a new site I arrive with a FD cookie reloaded on my browser. FD has added cookies for reasons unknown and it also loads a new cookie when you leave the site if you have deleted their original cookie before leaving.

I know Mark and Connie have ZERO to do with this, but what is up with the host in Panama????

It looks like it is SiteMeter that is doing it. I'm taking it off. Thanks for the heads up, Julian!!

I use Ghostery to block cookies I don't care for.

Good idea, backhoe! And, please let me know if that doesn't fix the problem, Julian!

Oh, and the reason FD has a cookie is so that you can remain logged in after you use the site. Nothing nefarious there. :)

To be honest, I'd never heard of it either.
For what it's worth, the online reviews I was able to find on it seemed quite positive.

I just installed it. According to the scan I had 969 tracking cookies on my computer. Hope it helps. I sit back at times with the computer, I can't access it but it sounds like it is working hard.

Firefox just posted on their blog that their Facebook fans “overwhelmingly’ recommended Ghostery as one of their favorite add-ons. Thanks for your support, Firefox Ghosterians! We’ll do our best to make sure we keep on making a product you love.

As always, we look to you to give us suggestions on improving Ghostery. If you have something you’d like to see happen with it, post it in our support forums, or email us!

I've been using Ghostery for a couple of years (since the beta version), it does what it does very well, blocking trackers etc.
I have "allowed" FD (the only site for which I have unblocked Gostery) site trackers such as SiteMeter and Google Analytics since it is the only site I care enough about and trust enough to allow them to collect stats and other potentially useful (to them) information.

I noticed several times on the FD site, something would try to download to my computer. Thankfully it was blocked.

A few FireFox add-ons to consider:

To delete cookies, junk, temporary and useless files: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard

Last but not least - Change your Google link to read:

Hope this helps!
