Poverty In America: Defining The New Poor

by NPR Staff
April 22, 2012

Welfare changes in the 1990s helped slash cash benefit rolls, yet the use of food stamps is soaring today. About 15 percent of Americans use food stamps. The program has become what some call the new welfare.

A big reason why is a deal struck between President Clinton and the Republican-controlled Congress in 1996. At that time, the number of Americans who received cash payments — what's often thought of as welfare — was at an all-time high...........http://www.npr.org/2012/04/22/151166529 ... e-new-poor

Unemployment Insurance Schemes And The Dependency Of Welfare
In the Garden of Eden there is no scarcity. Food, clothing, and shelter in are abundance. Resources merely fall from the heavens upon command. It is economic paradise precisely because economics does not exist. The universal laws that hold in the world of scarce goods vanquish in the land of the plenty..............http://www.zerohedge.com/news/guest-pos ... cy-welfare

Father of 30 kids by 11 women can't pay child support

Published May 18, 2012

FoxNews.com

A Tennessee man's problems paying child support aren't so surprising: He has 30 children with 11 different women.

Desmond Hatchett, 33, of Knoxville, is pleading with the state to help him pay for child support, citing the fact that he earns minimum wage. Hatchett made national news in 2009, when his tally stood at 21 children.

Record Number Of US Households On Foodstamps
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 06/04/2012 17:48 -0400

Last month, when the USDA released the latest foodstamps numbers for the month of February, there was some hope that following a third month of declines, we may just have seen the peak of US foodstamp usage and going forward we would only see the number decline. Sadly, the latest numbers refutes this: in March a total of 46,405,204 persons were at or below poverty level and thus eligible for foodstamps, a 79K increase in the month..................http://www.zerohedge.com/news/record-nu ... foodstamps

Top secret: $80B a year for food stamps, but feds won’t reveal what’s purchased
Americans spend $80 billion each year financing food stamps for the poor, but the country has no idea where or how the money is spent.

Food stamps can be spent on goods ranging from candy to steak and are accepted at retailers from gas stations that primarily sell potato chips to fried-chicken restaurants. And as the amount spent on food stamps has more than doubled in recent years, the amount of food stamps laundered into cash has increased dramatically, government statistics show....................http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201 ... tamps-buy/

I guess we know who they'll be voting for hey?

We're witnessing a brilliant job of importing the central Canadian model of perpetual state dependance. ObamaCommie health care and open border 3rd world immigration will only solidify this reliance on the state.

From Boortz this morning............ :ohwell:

The federal government and states overpaid an estimated $14 billion in unemployment benefits in 2011. And you want these people to run your healthcare!

I always liked Ronald Reagan's comment. He didn't want his health care being overseen by a similar bureaucratic government structure as was running the postal service.
