KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Facing potential bankruptcy, the board that governs the once flush-with-cash Kansas City school district is taking the unusual and contentious step of shuttering almost half its schools.

Administrators say the closures are necessary to keep the district from plowing through what little is left of the $2 billion it received as part of a groundbreaking desegregation case. The Kansas City school board narrowly approved the plan to close 29 out of 61 schools Wednesday night at a meeting packed with angry parents. continued

Quote:

I would call that a slick interpretation Stephen. The word of God will always be misunderstood when you force it to fit your theology as you have also done with the other very clear and direct scriptures given in this thread which you choose to have fit your theology.

Certainly no intent to be ‘slick’ as you imply. Also, the accusation that I ‘FORCE IT TO FIT’ my theology is rubbish but I respect that insinuation as your opinion.

The fact is that many theologians are very aware that the use of the word ‘world’ in translation is often referring to the known regions within the Roman Empire that were inhabited by the scattered 12 tribes. I didn't make this up.

In 2 Corinthians 4:4, the Greek word behind the english ‘aion’ which in this usage is referring to the 'AGE'....or Covenantal dispensation. This is not a new thought to many futurist or preterist alike as this greek word is used well over one hundred times in the NT to describe exactly what I am sharing with you.

Consider:

In the KJV Matthew 28:20 translates 'aion' into the english word 'world.' "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen

BUT

The NKJV uses the english 'end of the age' where world was previously used. "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, [even] to the end of the age." Amen.

Aion is referring to a period of time (an age) appointed by God and the people of the time or age. Different NT uses of the english word world are most often intending to refer to the known (Roman ruled) world in the greek. For instance, in Act 17:6 Paul says “But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.” This use of the English word WORLD is 'oikoumen' in the greek. We have different underlying meanings where the English word WORLD was used in the translation. In each, specific meanings are intended and if missed, the interpretation will be in error.

We see the same in Acts 24:5 “For we have found this man a plague, a creator of dissension among all the Jews throughout the world (again oikoumen), and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.” Were the Jews scattered throughout the ENTIRE PHYSICAL WORLD? No, they were not.

I can site example after example. The simple key is to understand that this was common hyperbol. We see it both in the Old and New Testaments and even within the secular writings of that day where THE WHOLE WORLD refers to the whole EMPIRE.

I will provide a few more examples for the heck of it. Again, I do not make this up. This is well known. In Col 1:23 Paul states that if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. Paul wasn't suggesting that the Gospel had already been preached to EVERY SINGLE CREATURE. Instead he was stating that it, the Gospel has now went out where they were told, by Jesus, to take it.

Look at what Paul says in Roman 10:18 "But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: "Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world." Am I to assume that the entire globe and all people had heard the gospel already? No, nor was it specifically necessary for them to hear it at this time where the Jews where granted one generation to repent before the judgement came upon them.

So friend, in 2 Corinthians 4:4, the god this world (aion=age) is referring to the accuser of the brethren Satan (we are in agreement on this) who only had the power to BLIND THE MINDS because the law existed until the Commonwealth and the temple was destroyed.

Romans 11:7-8 What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded. Just as it is written: "God has given them a spirit of stupor, Eyes that they should not see And ears that they should not hear, To this very day."

Even Paul knew the Covenant was obsolete and ready to be removed. Paul is aware of this and even after the ascension of Christ he is clearly aware that the Old Covenant is still operating and will ‘vanish away’ at Christs (spiritually) return to judge and destroy the Jewish Commonwealth of that day along with the temple. Look what Paul says Hebrews 8:13 In that He says, "A new [covenant]," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

It strikes me that when you take a place the whole world is flocking to in droves it starts to concern me because not all of them are industrious and some are outright lazy contributing nothing to communities. Many are extremely hard workers but some of them arrived for their slice of a pie they believed was theirs and left back to the Maritimes or Central Canada. They never gave a damn about local issues, building a library or repairing an arena. They came for quick money and left. In some respects they used us and our communities.

I can certainly appreciate your problem with that behavior, but just speaking from my perspective on the Georgia coast, I only wish the people who come here would cut & run, and leave after a while.

We have an increasing problem with refugees from the bigger cities plaguing us-- they turn their own hometowns into cesspools of too much taxation, too many regulations, and crime and corruption galore, and when they can't stand the mess they have helped make, cast their eyes toward the rural areas where land is ( comparatively ) cheap, taxes are lower...

...and when they alight, get busy trying to turn our smaller communities into clones of what they fled.

Most common and obnoxious newcomer statement?

"Ya know, this is nice, but we need ___, like we had in Atlanta..."

Welcome to the club, New Mexico and Colorado have been inundated with Californian refugees for the last several years.

Its fine as long as they follow the golden rule(When in Rome do as the Romans) and leave their corrupt Californian ways behind them, but they don't always do that. Many of them seem intent on importing their problems.
